POSITION SUMMARY
- This position is responsible for establishing, building, and managing the Electrical Engineering team at the Global Engineering Centre (GEC) in Pune, India. The Manager will lead a team of electrical engineers responsible for designing UPS systems, batteries, switchboards, panelboards, cable trays, cables, busbars, generators, transformers, RMUs, MV/LV equipment, and other electrical systems for modular building projects globally.
- The role combines technical leadership with people management, ensuring the GEC Pune team delivers high-quality electrical design, power system analysis, and project documentation in alignment with international standards and customer requirements.
- The Manager will integrate design concepts across multiple disciplines including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and fire protection, while driving operational excellence, team capability building, and continuous improvement.
- This is a critical leadership role that requires building the team from the ground up, establishing processes and standards, and positioning GEC Pune as a Centre of Excellence for electrical engineering delivery supporting global projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Team Building & People Management
- Build and scale the electrical engineering team at GEC Pune from the ground up, defining hiring plans, competency requirements, and team structure (Junior Engineers, Senior Engineers, Lead Engineers)
- Develop and execute recruitment strategy to attract top electrical engineering talent in the Pune region
- Establish structured onboarding programs, training roadmaps, and technical skill development plans for all team members
- Conduct regular performance reviews, set individual and team goals, and drive career development and succession planning
- Foster a high-performance culture aligned with core values: Safety, Integrity, Respect, Teamwork, and Diversity & Inclusion
- Manage team capacity planning, workload allocation, and resource utilization across multiple concurrent projects
- Mentor and coach engineers to develop technical expertise and leadership capabilities

- GEC Operations & Engineering Delivery
- Establish and manage day-to-day operations of the electrical engineering function at GEC Pune, serving as the single point of accountability for all electrical deliverables
- Ensure the team delivers high-quality project documentation including: single line diagrams, power load calculations, lighting calculations, cable lists, selectivity and coordination studies, harmonic studies, arc flash studies, load flow analysis, lightning protection studies, PUE analysis, cable sizing, cable running lists, layouts, schedules, detail drawings, descriptions, instructions, material submittals, presentations, and marketing materials
- Define and implement design standards, templates, checklists, quality gates, and review processes for consistent global delivery
- Drive adoption of design tools including Revit, AutoCAD, EPLAN, Dialux, ABB e-Design, Schneider Ecodial, and relevant selectivity/coordination software across the team
- Oversee development of conceptual and detailed electrical design for modular buildings (medium to high complexity projects)
- Ensure all designs follow international, national, and company standards and good engineering practices
- Manage development of defined documents according to Document Lists (DLIST)
- Oversee preparation of workshop documentation for electrical systems
- Technical Oversight & Quality
- Review and approve electrical design documentation developed by team members and outsourced subcontractors
- Provide technical approval/rejection for received supplier offers
- Approve or reject proposed changes by subcontractors to approved workshop documentation
- Ensure team performs accurate calculations for optimal component/material selection including cable sizing, selectivity studies, harmonic analysis, arc flash assessments, and load flow analysis
- Drive analysis and application of new components, materials, and technologies in electrical systems
- Ensure compliance with relevant international standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC, BS, NFPA) across all deliverables
- Conduct design reviews and technical audits to maintain engineering quality
- Specify Bill of Materials and services required for project execution
- Specify necessary certificates for materials needed to be ordered
- Project & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with global Project Lead Engineers and customers across Americas, EMEA, and APAC to understand project requirements and allocate GEC resources
- Participate in and lead kick-off meetings, design reviews, regular project team meetings, client meetings, and on-site coordination meetings as GEC Pune electrical engineering representative
- Report project status, team performance metrics, and capacity utilization to senior leadership
- Serve as the primary point of contact for global stakeholders seeking electrical engineering support from GEC Pune
- Initiate Requests for Information (RFI) when additional clarification is needed from global teams or customers
- Support suppliers with additional information during bidding phases and provide technical evaluation of offers
- Manage project assignments, workload balancing, and capacity planning across multiple concurrent projects
- Ensure on-time delivery of engineering milestones as per project schedules and Document Lists
- Cross-functional Collaboration
- Drive proactive cooperation with mechanical engineering, structural, fire protection, controls, and other disciplines during project execution
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Site Deployment engineering teams to ensure design-for-manufacturability
- Cooperate with Site Managers during assembly, providing technical solutions to raised issues
- Collaborate with Quality Control during quality control of components/systems and assembly on site
- Support Commissioning engineers in preparing testing documentation
- Coordinate participation in internal testing and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
- Provide technical support to subcontractors and installers during production/assembly
- Coordinate with global engineering centres for knowledge sharing, standardization, and best practice alignment
- Process Improvement & Innovation
- Establish and drive continuous improvement programs for design processes, tools, and deliverable quality
- Implement knowledge management systems for lessons learned, design libraries, and reusable components
- Introduce automation and digital engineering practices to improve team productivity and reduce design cycle time
- Champion innovation initiatives including new technologies, materials, and design methodologies for electrical systems
- Benchmark GEC Pune performance against global engineering centres and drive improvements
- Define and track engineering KPIs: on-time delivery, quality metrics, productivity, and utilization
AUTHORITIES

QUALIFICATIONS
- Education - Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) / Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) - Electrical Engineering OR Master of Technology (M.Tech) - Power Systems / Electrical Engineering OR MBA General Engineering
- 15+ years of progressive experience in electrical design engineering (power systems, MV/LV distribution, data centre infrastructure), with minimum 4+ years in a team leadership or management role
- English language - Fluent
- Industry Experience:Experience in modular buildings, data centre infrastructure, critical power systems, or similar project-based engineering environments preferred
- Software - Revit, AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP, Dialux (lighting calculations), MS Office, etc..
- Desired - PMP, Revit, Six Sigma etc.. Certifications
- Standards Knowledge: IEC, IEEE, NEC, BS, NFPA, ASHRAE, and relevant international electrical standards
