POSITION SUMMARY

  • This position is responsible for establishing, building, and managing the Architecture Engineering team at the Global Engineering Centre (GEC) in Pune, India, with a primary focus on data center modular buildings and critical infrastructure projects globally.
  • The Senior Manager will lead a multi-functional architecture team encompassing Architectural Design, Civil/Foundations Engineering, and BIM Coordination - ensuring the GEC Pune team delivers sustainable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing building designs that meet all project requirements, international standards, and data center industry best practices.
  • The scope of work managed by this position includes:
    • Architectural Design - Building envelope design, thermal protection, fire-proofing, building layer selection, architectural documentation, and material specifications for modular data center buildings
    • Civil & Foundations Engineering - Foundation concepts, load transfer, geotechnical coordination, civil documentation, and site works design for modular buildings and critical infrastructure
    • BIM Coordination & Management - BIM model management, project environment setup, BIM standards enforcement, content creation, quality audits, coordination across disciplines, and visualization (VR/AR/MR)
  • This is a senior leadership role that requires building the team from the ground up, establishing processes and standards, and positioning GEC Pune as a Centre of Excellence for architecture engineering delivery in the data center domain.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Building & People Management

  • Build and scale the GEC Pune team: Architectural Design Engineers, Civil/Foundations Engineers, and BIM Coordinators.
  • Define hiring plans, competency frameworks, and structured onboarding programs.
  • Conduct performance reviews, career development, and succession planning.
  • Manage capacity planning, workload allocation, and resource utilization.
  • Foster a high-performance culture - Safety, Integrity, Respect, Teamwork, D&I.

Architectural Design Leadership

  • Lead conceptual and detailed architectural design of modular data center buildings (small to large scale).
  • Deliver: thermal transmittance calculations, building envelope designs, architectural 3D models, layouts, plans, sections, elevation views, fire-proofing details, and material submittals.
  • Define building layers, thermal insulation, fire rating, and material certification requirements.
  • Drive adoption of Revit, AutoCAD, and EnCert-HR (thermal calculation tools).
  • Ensure designs meet data center requirements - cooling containment, security, and redundancy.

Civil & Foundations Engineering Oversight

  • Oversee foundation concepts and civil design documentation based on structural inputs.
  • Ensure team prepares civil layouts, foundation drawings, and geotechnical coordination.
  • Manage load transfer interfaces with Structural Engineers.
    • Ensure compliance with EN, Eurocodes, IS 1904, IS 2950, and IS 6403.

BIM Management & Coordination

  • Establish BIM strategy, standards, and workflows aligned with ISO 19650-1/2.
  • Oversee BIM project environment setup, model management, and documentation naming conventions.
  • Drive BIM model audits, quality control, clash detection, and coordination across disciplines.
  • Manage BIM Project Execution Plans and content library development.
  • Champion adoption of Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360/ACC, and VR/AR/MR tools.

Design Review, Verification & Quality

  • Review and approve architectural, civil, and BIM documentation by team members and subcontractors.
  • Approve or reject supplier offers and subcontractor changes to workshop documentation.
  • Specify Bill of Materials, services, and material certificates for project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with Eurocode, NBC India, ASHRAE, NFPA, TIA-942, and IBC.

Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate with global Project Lead Engineers and customers across Americas, EMEA, and APAC.
  • Lead kick-off meetings, design reviews, and client coordination meetings.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for global teams seeking architecture/civil/BIM support from GEC Pune.
  • Initiate RFIs for technical clarifications support supplier evaluations during bidding.

Cross-functional & Process Improvement

  • Collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Controls, and Fire Protection disciplines.
  • Support Manufacturing, Site Deployment, QC, Commissioning, and FAT activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement programs, design libraries, and parametric/generative design tools.
  • Define and track KPIs: on-time delivery, BIM maturity, quality, utilization, and cycle time reduction.

AUTHORITIES

  • Hiring, performance management, and development decisions for the full architecture team at GEC Pune.
  • Review and approval of architectural and civil design documentation.
  • Approve or reject supplier offers and subcontractor changes to workshop documentation.
  • BIM standards, software, and digital transformation decisions.
  • Resource allocation, process standardization, and budget management for team operations, training, and tools.
  • Escalation authority for unresolved design, coordination, or quality issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: B.E./B.Tech in Civil/Arch. Engineering M.Tech preferred
  • Experience: 14+ years in Arch./Civil design, 3+ years team leadership
  • Language: English fluent Hindi/Marathi preferred
  • Software: Revit (advanced), AutoCAD, Navisworks, BIM 360/ACC, EnCert-HR, VR/AR/MR tools, MS Office
  • Standards: Eurocode, NBC India, IS 1904/2950/6403, ISO 19650, TIA-942, ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC
  • Soft skills: Leadership, independence, attention to detail, problem solving, organization, creativity, teamwork, flexibility

TIME TRAVEL REQUIRED

  • 30-40% (International travel to global offices, customer sites, manufacturing facilities, and supplier locations)
