The Global Merchant and Network Product team is at the heart of American Express. Each year, we power billions of transactions through our global payments network, serving our Issuing & Acquiring partners in more than 170 markets worldwide. We grow revenue by driving strategic, multi-year initiatives to deliver differentiated value to our merchants, partners, and customers.

The Global Merchant and Network Capability Delivery team works to deliver digital products and services for merchants, network acquirers and issuers, and payment facilitators such as ATM/debit, point of sale authorizations & submissions, transaction pricing, disputes and settlement that meet the evolving demands of our global payment network. The wide range of solutions we develop enable the enterprise to attract new customers, operate in new markets, react to regulatory demands, and process new/emerging types of payments. A role on this team will challenge you to broaden your business solution design, agile product, data stewardship, quality assurance and operational readiness skills while incorporating an industry perspective in a collaborative, diverse and inclusive team environment.

The Product Owner/Product Manager leads the strategy, roadmap, and execution for the Merchant Financial Data platform capabilities supporting payments, reconciliations, servicing, financial data and reporting products. This role owns financial data system of record ensuring data integrity, control effectiveness, operational resilience, and regulatory compliance within a BFSI environment.

The role is accountable for delivering scalable financial data capabilities that support enterprise priorities, strengthen controls around Merchant financial data across the Merchant lifecycle. Operating within a highly matrixed organization, the individual partners with senior leadership, Risk, Control Management, Finance, Technology, and multiple Lines of Business (LOBs) to drive measurable business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the product vision and multi-year roadmap for the Merchant Financial Data platform capabilities supporting payments, reconciliations, servicing, financial data and reporting products.
  • Support Merchant Financial product portfolios to deliver against enterprise and strategic priorities.
  • Own the Merchant Financial System of Record, ensuring data integrity, traceability, audit readiness, and high data quality standards.
  • Collaborate closely with Control Management and Risk teams to identify, track, and resolve operational risk events.
  • Own and manage corrective action plans (CAPs), ensuring timely remediation and sustained mitigation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date process documentation, issue logs, and reporting within enterprise issue management tools, ensuring compliance with audit and regulatory standards.
  • Leverage data and reporting tools to generate actionable insights and support informed decision-making across stakeholders.
  • Drive platform modernization initiatives to improve automation, scalability, reporting capabilities, and system resilience.
  • Translate financial and risk data insights into product enhancements tied to measurable business outcomes.
  • Lead product discovery, feature definition, backlog prioritization, and roadmap execution using Scaled Agile methodologies.
  • Define acceptance criteria, UAT strategy, and release validation processes to ensure financial accuracy and control effectiveness.
  • Identify and proactively manage financial, operational, regulatory, and data risks across the portfolio.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Merchant Financial Data Products.
  • Interface with senior leadership and navigate matrixed environments to drive cross-functional alignment and enterprise-level decisions.
  • Lead and develop direct reports with accountability for performance management, coaching, and talent development.
  • Operate effectively in ambiguity while balancing innovation, compliance, and enterprise risk priorities.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of Product Delivery experience in financial services, payments, risk, or enterprise data platforms.
  • Deep understanding of Merchant Financial Data domains.
  • Strong experience managing merchant risk capabilities within payments, reconciliations, servicing, and financial reporting ecosystems.
  • Proven ability to embed operational risk management and control frameworks into product platforms.
  • Experience supporting enterprise risk initiatives, corrective action planning (CAPs), and audit remediation programs.
  • Strong knowledge of BFSI regulatory standards, financial compliance requirements, and internal control environments.
  • Experience driving platform modernization and enterprise transformation initiatives.
  • Strong analytical capability with ability to translate financial and risk data into measurable business outcomes.
  • Familiarity with enterprise issue management tools such as Archer, and enterprise data platforms.
  • Experience with data and reporting tools such as Power BI and SQL is a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership in matrixed organizations with strong stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong risk-based decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and manage through chaos.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree/Computer Science/Engineering/Finance, or related quantitative field.
