Job Description
The Position is responsible for overseeing Legal Entity (LE) Governance activities in support of the American Express India Legal Entities which include AEIPL, AESIPL, AEBSIPL and other business as may be required from time to time.
The Position will report directly to the Director, Compliance and will serve in supporting the LE Governance functions, business management, finance organizations, board, and regulators.
Responsibilities
Legal Entity Governance & Board Support
- Support governance activities for multiple legal entities (AEIPL, AEBSIPL, AESIPL, etc.)
- Ensure timely and accurate information flows to the Board and Committees
- Assist in preparation of board materials and escalation of key compliance risks
Compliance Risk Management
- Identify, assess, and monitor compliance risks across applicable laws and regulations
- Perform compliance risk assessments and control testing
- Develop and maintain compliance dashboards and reporting mechanisms
- Escalate significant risk issues to senior leadership and Board
Regulatory & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws including:
- Labour Laws (Gratuity, Provident Fund, ESI, Shops & Establishment, Apprentices Act, Labour codes etc.)
- Companies Act
- Income Tax & FEMA regulations
- Other applicable statutory and regulatory requirements
- Maintain and update regulatory inventory and track regulatory changes
- Drive implementation of new/updated regulatory requirements
- Act as Data Privacy Officer and manage grievance handling processes
- Ensure timely regulatory reporting and adherence to prescribed timelines
- Exposure to transfer pricing, IRDA regulations, or financial services regulations is an added advantage
Stakeholder Management & Advisory
- Collaborate with 1LOD (Business) and 2LOD (Risk/Compliance) teams.
- Provide advisory support to business functions on compliance matters.
- Liaise with regulators, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
Governance & Process Improvement
- Strengthening compliance frameworks, policies, and controls.
- Support business restructuring and expansion initiatives from a compliance standpoint.
- Drive continuous improvement in compliance processes and reporting.
- Foster a strong risk and compliance culture across the organization.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
- 10–15 years of relevant experience in compliance, legal, or risk management
- Seasoned people leader with experience building and transforming teams and leading and developing individuals across multiple locations.
- Strong experience in labour laws, Companies act, S&E, DPDPA, IRDA, Companies Act, SDPI, FEMA, and Statutory compliance
- Experience in compliance risk assessment, monitoring, and reporting.
- Exposure to board/committee reporting and senior stakeholder management
- Strong understanding of corporate governance and regulatory frameworks
- Experience working in GCCs or financial services preferred
- CA / CS / LLB , Bachelor's degree and/or compliance or legal / Risk qualification advantageous
