Overview


CACTUS is a remote-first organization and we embrace an accelerate from anywhere culture. However, given the business requirements of this role, you are expected to frequently travel to our Mumbai office/location office.

CACTUS is looking for a Manager to lead high-impact analytics and consulting initiatives in the higher education and research ecosystem. This role is ideal for a professional with experience working with universities and academic institutions, especially on data audits, assessments, and strategic initiatives focused on improving research quality, research visibility, international collaboration, funding performance, and related priorities. The candidate should create innovative solutions that address the evolving challenges of higher education, demonstrating skill in organising unclear issues into well-defined analytical frameworks and actionable strategies.

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical depth, consulting capability, and business judgment with hands-on expertise in SQL, Power BI, Google BigQuery (GBQ), and Python. This role requires translating large, complex datasets into clear, actionable insights and strategic recommendations for both internal and external senior stakeholders.


Responsibilities


  • Lead consulting projects for universities and research institutions, managing the full process from problem definition to executive presentations.
  • Conduct data audits to evaluate the quality, completeness, and consistency of institutional data for benchmarking and reporting.
  • Develop and deliver data-driven recommendations and solutions, including dashboards and reports, to enhance process efficiency, reporting structures, metric visibility, and overall performance.
  • Analyse digital performance data using digital analytics tools to identify opportunities for improving engagement, acquisition, and conversion across web and user journeys.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to define business problems, create analytical frameworks, and deliver actionable recommendations aligned with market needs and institutional priorities.
  • Synthesize complex analyses into executive-ready presentations and strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability across all projects and reporting deliverables.
  • Support business growth by contributing to solution development, proposals, and thought leadership in higher education and research intelligence.

Qualifications and Prerequisites


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Analytics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Business, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in analytics consulting roles, preferably with exposure to the higher education / university sector.
  • Prior experience managing or contributing to engagements involving university data audits, performance assessments, or strategic analytics initiatives.
  • Hands-on expertise in:
    • SQL
    • Power BI (PBI)
    • Google BigQuery (GBQ)
    • Digital analytics
  • Strong experience in creating dashboards, KPI frameworks, and executive reporting for business or consulting use cases.
  • Strong understanding of data validation, metric definitions, reporting structures, and governance best practices.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to present insights to senior stakeholders and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience managing client relationships and independently driving workstreams.
