Job Description

  • Design, develop, and maintain COBOL programs, JCL scripts, and DB2 database components for batch and online mainframe applications.
  • Analyze, debug, and resolve production issues in mainframe environments, including file management and scheduling via ESP or similar tools.
  • Perform impact analysis for change requests, enhancements, and defect fixes, ensuring minimal disruption to existing processes.
  • Optimize performance of COBOL programs, JCL jobs, and DB2 queries to meet SLAs and improve system efficiency.
  • Manage and manipulate files using mainframe file management utilities and tools, ensuring data integrity and accuracy across jobs and processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (BA, QA, operations) to understand requirements, clarify functional specifications, and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including program specifications, job flows, data mappings, and operational runbooks.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards, best practices, and security/compliance guidelines.
  • Support batch scheduling and monitoring using ESP (or equivalent schedulers), including job setup, dependencies, and failure recovery procedures.
  • Contribute to testing activities by preparing test data, supporting unit and integration testing, and assisting QA teams in defect analysis.

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields such as BTech, BE, BSc, BCA, MTech, ME, MSc.

  • Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a mainframe developer in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong proficiency in COBOL for developing and maintaining batch and online programs.
  • Solid experience with JCL for job creation, execution, and troubleshooting in mainframe environments.
  • Practical knowledge of DB2 including writing and tuning SQL queries, working with tables, views, and stored procedures on mainframe.
  • Proven experience in file management on mainframe platforms, including handling sequential, VSAM, and other common file types.
  • Working knowledge of ESP or similar enterprise job scheduling tools for batch job orchestration.
  • Ability to analyze requirements and translate them into clear, maintainable technical solutions on mainframe systems.
  • Good communication skills to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
