Mainframe Technical Lead

Responsibilities :

Provide technical leadership and guidance to offshore batch support personnel.

Coordinate 24x7 operational support across all shift teams.

Serve as the primary escalation point for complex batch processing and environment-related issues.

Partner with the three onshore Senior Developers and management team to coordinate day-to-day operations, priorities, and support activities.

Facilitate communication and collaboration between offshore resources, onshore technical leadership, and management.

Coordinate resource assignments, workload balancing, and shift handoffs across the support organization.

Monitor, analyze, and resolve batch job failures and performance issues.

Lead root cause analysis efforts and drive corrective actions for recurring problems.

Execute and oversee data refresh and environment maintenance activities.

Develop, modify, and maintain JCL, REXX, COBOL, and related mainframe components.

Support CICS and DB2 applications and associated batch processes.

Monitor workload automation and scheduling activities using ESP.

Support software migration and deployment activities using ChangeMan.

Generate, review, and present KPI and operational reporting metrics.

Provide status updates, operational metrics, risk assessments, and escalation summaries to the onshore leadership team and managers.

Coordinate with application, infrastructure, release management, and business teams to ensure service continuity.

Collaborate with onshore developers and managers on release planning, issue management, continuous improvement initiatives, and operational readiness activities.

Facilitate knowledge transfer and onboarding activities for offshore team members.

Develop and maintain operational procedures, technical documentation, and support runbooks.

Drive process improvement and automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency and service quality.

Assist management with resource planning, workload management, prioritization, and operational readiness activities.

Support monthly and major release activities, ensuring successful execution of batch processing requirements.

Additional Responsibilities:

Experience with COBOL, JCL, Assembler, EasyTrieve, and SAS reporting.

Experience utilizing ESP workload automation and scheduling tools.

Experience with ChangeMan software configuration and release management processes.

Familiarity with data refresh procedures within testing and non-production environments.

Experience creating KPI dashboards, metrics, and operational reporting.

Knowledge of incident, problem, and change management processes.

Experience supporting large-scale enterprise mainframe environments.

Proven experience leading offshore support teams.

Technical and Professional Requirements:

Extensive experience supporting IBM z/OS mainframe environments.

Hands-on experience with JCL, REXX, COBOL, CICS, and DB2.

Experience troubleshooting complex batch processing and job scheduling issues.

Experience leading technical teams or serving in a lead support capacity.

Strong understanding of batch scheduling, workload automation, and test environment support processes.

Demonstrated experience managing escalations and coordinating incident resolution efforts.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational support environment and collaborate across multiple teams.
