Job Description

Mainframe Storage Administrator

Required Technical and Professional Experience

•10+ Years of Experience in Mainframe Storage Administration

  •Administer and manage z/OS storage environments, including EMC/Dell EMC mainframe disk subsystems

•   Configure and support storage replication solutions (SRDF) for high availability and disaster recovery

•   Perform disk initialization, reorganization, and space management activities

•   Maintain and update SMS definitions (Storage Groups, Classes, ACS routines) across LPARs

•   Manage enterprise tape library systems and tape management processes

•   Monitor and automate space allocation and dataset growth to prevent storage-related outages

•   Analyze and optimize I/O performance using RMF/SMF and storage performance metrics

•   Maintain DFSMS components and related storage utilities and products

•   Implement and support backup, archive, and DR procedures, including DR testing

•   Troubleshoot and resolve high-severity storage incidents and service requests

•   Coordinate with storage vendors and internal teams to resolve technical issues and escalations

•   Bachelor's degree is mandatory.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

••   Oversee day‑to‑day operations of z/OS storage infrastructure supporting multiple LPARs

•   Provision, configure, and manage mainframe disk resources, including volume setup and lifecycle control

•   Design and maintain policy‑driven storage allocation through SMS constructs and ACS logic

•   Support data replication and resiliency solutions to meet availability and recovery objectives

•   Administer tape environments, ensuring reliable media management and data retention compliance

•   Proactively track space consumption trends and implement automated controls to avoid shortages

•   Evaluate system‑level metrics to identify and remediate I/O performance constraints

•   Ensure operational stability of DFSMS services and associated storage utilities

•   Execute backup, archive, and data movement processes aligned with enterprise standards

•   Participate in disaster recovery readiness, including testing, validation, and documentation updates

•   Lead investigation and resolution of critical storage‑related outages and escalations

•   Coordinate with vendors and cross‑functional teams to deliver timely storage solutions and fixes

• Logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
