Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mainframe DB2 Administrator with 4 to 5 years of experience to manage, maintain, and optimize DB2 databases on mainframe environments. The ideal candidate will ensure database availability, performance, security, and support in a high-volume transaction processing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain DB2 databases on IBM mainframe (z/OS) environments.
  • Monitor database performance and tune for optimal throughput and response times.
  • Manage DB2 database objects such as tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, and packages.
  • Perform backup and recovery operations, ensuring data integrity and availability.
  • Implement and maintain database security policies and user access controls.
  • Support database upgrades, patches, and migration activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve DB2-related incidents and performance issues.
  • Work closely with application teams, system programmers, and network teams to ensure smooth database operations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to DB2 database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
  • Plan and execute database capacity and growth planning.
  • Provide support for SQL query tuning and optimization.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate IT policies and industry regulations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 4 to 5 years of hands-on experience as a DB2 Administrator on IBM mainframe (z/OS) platform.
  • Strong knowledge of DB2 for z/OS architecture, utilities, and management tools.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and SQL optimization.
  • Proficient in DB2 backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Familiarity with security concepts, roles, and permissions in DB2.
  • Knowledge of JCL (Job Control Language) and mainframe environment.
  • Experience with database upgrades, patching, and migration projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills (Good to Have):

  • Experience with DB2 Connect and integration with distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and scripting (CLIST, REXX).
  • Knowledge of SQL performance tuning tools.
  • Certifications such as IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2 for z/OS.
  • Exposure to mainframe security tools and practices.
