Mainframe Automation Engineer

Job Description:

• The Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing developing implementing and supporting automation solutions within the Environment and Automation Performance team
• This role will focus on streamlining batch operations data refresh activities monitoring processes reporting functions and operational support tasks through the use of mainframe and enterprise automation technologies
• The individual will leverage technologies including JCL REXX COBOL ESP OPS MVS and Ansible to eliminate manual effort improve operational efficiency and enhance the reliability of test environment services
• The Automation Engineer will work closely with application teams infrastructure teams offshore support personnel onshore developers and management to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational transformation

Key Responsibilities:

• Identify and evaluate opportunities to automate batch processing and test environment support activities
• Design develop test and implement automation solutions using REXX JCL COBOL OPS MVS and Ansible
• Automate recurring data refresh processes and environment maintenance activities
• Develop automated monitoring alerting and recovery solutions for batch workloads
• Create automation workflows to reduce manual operational effort and improve service reliability
• Support and enhance workload scheduling and automation functions within ESP
• Develop scripts and tools to improve batch job management reporting and operational visibility
• Analyze existing support procedures and recommend automation opportunities
• Collaborate with the Mainframe Automation and Performance team
• Support CICS and DB2 application processes through automation and process optimization
• Automate KPI collection reporting dashboard generation and operational metrics
• Assist in root cause analysis and implement automated preventive solutions for recurring incidents
• Develop and maintain automation related documentation standards procedures and knowledge articles
• Participate in release planning and implementation activities to ensure automation solutions align with business requirements
• Promote automation best practices and continuous improvement across the support organization
• Evaluate emerging automation technologies and recommend improvements to current processes and tooling

Technical Requirements:

• Experience supporting IBM z OS mainframe environments
• Strong hands on experience with JCL and REXX development
• Experience with mainframe batch processing and workload automation
• Experience with ESP workload automation and scheduling
• Experience with OPS MVS automation solutions
• Experience developing automation scripts and workflows
• Knowledge of COBOL CICS and DB2 environments
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Experience troubleshooting complex operational and batch processing issues
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple technical teams

Additional Responsibilities:

• Experience with Ansible Automation Platform including Ansible for z OS
• Experience with COBOL JCL Assembler and EasyTrieve
• Experience automating data refresh and environment management processes
• Experience in creating automated operational reporting and KPI dashboards
• Knowledge of ChangeMan and release management processes
• Experience supporting large scale enterprise mainframe environments
