Job Description

Machine Learning Engineer — AI Data Trainer

About The Role

What if your technical expertise could directly influence how the world's most advanced AI systems learn to reason, plan, and solve problems We're looking for experienced Machine Learning Engineers to help train cutting-edge large language models — not by writing model code, but by doing something arguably more impactful: teaching AI how to think.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for senior technical minds who can articulate complex reasoning with precision. You'll produce the high-quality training data that helps AI models move from generating plausible-sounding answers to executing genuinely reliable, step-by-step problem-solving in the real world.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design and document precise, structured reasoning logs that demonstrate how a skilled engineer approaches complex technical problems
  • Record sequential decision-making workflows — from problem framing through tool selection, execution, and verification
  • Generate high-quality training datasets that illustrate expert-level reasoning and tool use for AI models
  • Critically audit and refine AI-generated reasoning steps to ensure accuracy, logical consistency, and practical soundness
  • Work across a range of sophisticated ML and engineering challenges — independently, on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Professional background in Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Exceptional ability to articulate complex reasoning and multi-step problem-solving in clear, structured prose
  • Strong critical thinking skills — you can spot flawed logic, missing steps, or suboptimal approaches at a glance
  • Methodical and detail-oriented, with a high standard for technical accuracy
  • Master's Degree or PhD in a relevant field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently without close supervision

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience in data annotation, data quality assurance, or AI evaluation workflows
  • Familiarity with how large language models are trained, fine-tuned, or evaluated
  • Background in technical writing, documentation, or engineering education
  • Hands-on experience working with ML frameworks, APIs, or agentic AI systems

Why Join Us

  • Work on genuinely frontier AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams
  • Fully remote and asynchronous — work when and where you're most effective
  • Freelance autonomy with meaningful, intellectually engaging work
  • Get rare, behind-the-scenes exposure to how advanced LLMs are built and trained
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
