Logistics Officer – International Freight Forwarding (IFF)

About the Role

We are looking for a Logistics Officer – International Freight Forwarding (IFF) to support the execution of global freight operations from Asia to East and West Africa. This role is responsible for coordinating international shipments, managing freight documentation, ensuring shipment visibility, controlling freight costs, and collaborating with suppliers, freight forwarders, shipping lines, customs brokers, and internal logistics teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate ocean, air, multimodal, RORO, and Breakbulk shipments from origin to destination.
  • Support freight procurement activities, including RFQs, vendor comparisons, freight rate analysis, and maintaining approved vendor databases.
  • Manage shipment bookings, cargo readiness, shipping instructions, and supplier coordination.
  • Verify shipping documentation including Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, Certificates of Origin, and other export documents.
  • Track shipments, monitor vessel schedules, manage shipment milestones, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with country logistics teams to support customs clearance, inland transportation, and timely cargo delivery.
  • Monitor container demurrage and detention, validate carrier invoices, and minimize avoidable logistics costs.
  • Maintain freight cost records, verify invoices, support cost analysis, and prepare logistics reports and dashboards.
  • Ensure compliance with international shipping regulations, Incoterms 2020, customs requirements, and internal logistics SOPs.
  • Contribute to process improvements, logistics automation initiatives, and operational excellence projects.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or a related field.
  • 4–7 years of experience in international freight forwarding or global logistics.
  • Hands-on experience in ocean freight operations is essential.
  • Experience managing air freight, multimodal transportation, shipment documentation, and freight procurement.
  • Strong knowledge of import/export documentation, customs clearance processes, carrier coordination, and shipment tracking.
  • Working knowledge of Incoterms 2020, IMDG Code, and IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with experience using ERP or Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Professional certifications such as CILT, FIATA Diploma, or APICS/ASCM.
  • Experience handling shipments into African markets.
  • Exposure to RORO, Breakbulk, or project cargo operations.
  • Experience with Power BI.
