Logistics and Freight Forwarding Manager

Department: Logistics

Location: Delhi

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: ₹22 LPA (Negotiable)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Logistics and Freight Forwarding Manager to lead and oversee logistics operations within the Aerospace & Defense sector. The role involves managing domestic and international transportation, freight forwarding, customs coordination, and secure movement of high-value and sensitive equipment while ensuring full compliance with international trade regulations and defense industry standards.

The ideal candidate will work closely with Armed Forces personnel, freight forwarders, trucking suppliers, customs agents, and program management teams in India and overseas to ensure timely, secure, and cost-effective deliveries.

Preference will be given to retired Armed Forces officers, particularly candidates with the rank of Captain .

Key Responsibilities

Logistics Operations

  • Manage end-to-end inbound and outbound logistics operations. 
  • Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers for domestic and international shipments. 
  • Ensure timely delivery of components, materials, and finished goods while optimizing logistics costs. 
  • Develop and implement logistics strategies aligned with project timelines and customer commitments. 
  • Monitor shipment schedules and resolve operational bottlenecks proactively. 

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, export control laws, and defense logistics requirements. 
  • Manage import/export documentation including: 
  • Commercial invoices 
  • Packing lists 
  • Certificates of origin 
  • Shipping and export licenses 
  • Maintain adherence to company, customer, and government compliance standards. 

Freight Forwarding & Vendor Management

  • Manage relationships with freight forwarding and transportation partners. 
  • Negotiate contracts, freight rates, and service agreements across air, ocean, and ground transportation. 
  • Monitor freight performance and ensure service quality and accountability. 
  • Utilize ERP and shipment tracking systems for visibility and traceability. 

Risk Management & Security

  • Assess and mitigate transportation risks involving high-value, hazardous, or sensitive materials. 
  • Implement and monitor security protocols for defense-related shipments. 
  • Ensure proper handling and transportation procedures for regulated cargo. 

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and train logistics personnel to maintain operational efficiency and compliance. 
  • Establish and monitor KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and operational excellence. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with procurement, operations, program management, and customer teams to align logistics execution with business objectives. 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • (Master's degree preferred.) 
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in logistics and freight forwarding. 
  • At least 3 years of experience in Aerospace, Defense, or another highly regulated industry
  • Strong knowledge of: 
  • International shipping 
  • Customs regulations 
  • INCOTERMS 
  • Export control laws (ITAR/EAR) 
  • Defense logistics protocols 
  • Experience with freight tracking and ERP systems. 
  • Proven experience negotiating logistics and transportation contracts. 
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and analytical skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. 

Preferred Certifications

  • Dangerous Goods Transportation Certification: 
  • IATA 
  • IMDG 
  • ADR 

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work model (office + site visits as required) 
  • Occasional travel to supplier, customer, and project locations within India
