Join Apple, and help us lead the future generation of innovation.
Description
Join our Fleet Operations Engineering organization — the people responsible for designing, building, and operating the large-scale Linux and storage infrastructure that powers Apple's services at extraordinary scale. This role bridges our Infrastructure Systems Engineering and Database Systems Engineering teams, sitting at the heart of both Linux fleet operations and large-scale SAN storage environments.
You will deploy and maintain large fleets of Linux systems, configure and provision SAN storage infrastructure, and develop automation tooling that drives reliability and reduces toil across the organization. You'll partner closely with developers, DBAs, network engineers, and EPMs to build the environments that make Apple's products possible — championing self-service, security, and engineering excellence every step of the way.
If you're energized by deep systems and storage challenges, thrive in collaborative cross-functional settings, and take pride in building reliable, automated infrastructure at scale — you'll find a meaningful home on our team.
Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, and maintain large-scale Linux systems across production and non-production environments
- Configure and provision FCP and Infiniband multi-path storage devices across large-scale SAN environments
- Deploy and maintain Linux servers and external flash storage appliances at high volume
- Develop and maintain automation and configuration management solutions using tools such as Puppet, Ansible, or Verdad
- Write and maintain operational tooling in Python, Go, or other scripting languages to improve reliability and reduce manual intervention
- Administer and troubleshoot complex SAN storage subsystems, including environments running Oracle and Oracle RAC
- Perform performance reviews and root-cause analysis on storage and infrastructure issues
- Debug complex systems issues — from the application layer down to the kernel — and drive resolution
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, revision control workflows, and configuration management practices
- Partner with engineering teams to promote self-service tooling and service democratization across the organization
- Collaborate regularly with developers, DBAs, network engineers, and EPMs to support new product initiatives
- Help enforce security best practices, OS hardening, and compliance standards across the fleet
