AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today's five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected.

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Linux Systems Engineer to join our team. This role will focus on managing and optimizing our Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux system administration, experience with CAD tools, and a passion for ensuring the reliability and performance of our engineering infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Administration: Design, configure, and maintain Linux-based servers and workstations used for CAD applications. Ensure high availability, usage optimization and performance of these systems.
  • CAD Management: Support and manage CAD tools and environments, including installation, configuration, license management and troubleshooting. Work closely with engineering teams to understand their requirements and provide solutions.
  • Automation: Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools to streamline system management tasks, such as software deployment, system monitoring, and backup processes.
  • Security: Implement and maintain security measures to protect CAD systems and data. Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor system performance and resource utilization. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to ensure smooth operation of CAD applications.
  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including IT, engineering, and stakeholders, to ensure seamless integration and operation of CAD systems. Provide technical support and guidance to users.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Linux system administration, with a focus on supporting Grid/scheduling systems and License environments (FlexLM)
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu), scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python), version control (e.g., GIT, Gitlab), and CAD tools (e.g., Questa (Modelsim), Xcelium or VCS).
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., RHCE, CompTIA Linux+) are a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of network protocols and services (e.g., DNS, DHCP, NFS).
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
