Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide L2 support for Linux servers and related infrastructure, including Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, or other distributions.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems, patches, and updates.
  • Monitor system performance, analyze logs, and troubleshoot hardware/software issues.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and security policies in accordance with IT standards.
  • Automate routine tasks using shell scripting (Bash) or other scripting languages.
  • Work with storage, network, and backup teams to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Implement security best practices, including firewall configuration, vulnerability assessments, and patch management.
  • Support deployment and configuration of applications running on Linux servers.
  • Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and incident reports.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to escalated incidents promptly.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for capacity planning and system upgrades.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Linux System Administrator, preferably with L2 support exposure.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux OS internals, file systems, process management, and networking.
  • Hands-on experience with system monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, etc.).
  • Proficient in shell scripting (Bash) and basic automation techniques.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef is a plus.
  • Good understanding of security concepts, including SELinux, iptables/firewalld, SSH hardening.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is advantageous.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex system and network issues.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Desirable Skills:

  • Certification such as RHCSA, RHCE, or equivalent Linux certifications.
  • Experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of database administration (MySQL, PostgreSQL) on Linux.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Jira).
