Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly experienced Linux / Edge Platform Engineer to design, build, and maintain robust Ubuntu‑based system images for industrial Edge AI platforms. The role focuses on platform reliability, secure deployment, system recovery, and performance optimization across GPU‑enabled edge environments. This position is ideal for a hands‑on platform engineer who excels in Linux internals, system provisioning, and edge operations, and who thrives in environments where stability, repeatability, and recoverability are critical.

You will be working for ABB Robotics and role is based out of Bangalore, India.

You are mainly accountable for :

  • Build, customize, and maintain Ubuntu‑based system images for industrial Edge AI platforms.
  • Develop and maintain automated disk partitioning, image provisioning, and deployment workflows.
  • Create and manage bootable installation and recovery media using tools such as SystemRescue.
  • Integrate, compile, and package open‑source libraries and frameworks, optimized for GPU‑based hardware.
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Linux boot processes, including GRUB, initramfs, and system recovery.
  • Support field deployments, including system recovery, diagnostics, and secure platform restoration.

Qualification of the role

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of hands‑on experience as a Linux / Platform / Edge Engineer.
  • Strong experience in customizing Ubuntu/Linux distributions, disk imaging, and system provisioning.
  • Deep understanding of Linux internals, including bootloaders, initramfs, systemd, and system services.
  • Experience building and integrating open‑source software stacks, including GPU‑optimized builds.
  • Solid background in Linux system administration, networking, firewall configuration, and system hardening.
  • Experience with IoT and edge connectivity, including certificate‑based authentication and secure communication.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated image builds, artifact management, and deployment workflows.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills using Linux logging, diagnostics, and recovery tools.
  • Experience working in industrial or mission‑critical edge environments is highly preferred.
