Position Title: Library Manager

Reports To: Chief Business Officer

Employment Type: Full-time

Position Summary

The Library Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the UNSW India Campus library, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services, resources, and programs that support academic, research, and community objectives. This role oversees procurement, negotiation, and vendor management, ensuring compliance with Indian and UNSW standards. The Library Manager fosters a culture of innovation, professional development, and stakeholder engagement, and is responsible for building a library service that meets the needs of a diverse student and faculty population in a rapidly evolving higher education environment.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement the library's strategic plan, aligned with UNSW India's vision and goals.
  • Lead the management of library operations, including collections, information services, and user experience.
  • Oversee procurement processes for library resources, negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships in compliance with Indian regulations and UNSW policies.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international standards for library operations and resource management.
  • Lead the development and implementation of policies, systems, and controls for library services, including digital transformation and access management.
  • Manage budgets, financial planning, and reporting for library operations and capital projects.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and professional development among library staff.
  • Engage with academic and professional leaders to support teaching, research, and learning initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, professional associations, and community stakeholders.
  • Communicate library insights, performance, and strategic priorities to senior leadership and governance bodies.
  • Lead risk management, including copyright compliance, data privacy, and information security.
  • Oversee internal controls, fraud prevention, and compliance monitoring in library operations.
  • Develop sustainable models for resource acquisition, digital transformation, and community engagement.
  • Assess and implement commercial ventures or partnerships suited to the library's mission and values.
  • Ensure high standards of integrity, judgement, and alignment with UNSW and public sector academic values.

Skill & Experience

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent (required).
  • Professional librarian accreditation (e.g., ALA, ALIA, ILA) preferred.
  • Training or certification in procurement, negotiation, or project management (desirable).
  • 7+ years of senior library management experience in complex or academic environments, in India or international higher education.
  • Experience in leadership, team development, and change management.
  • Proven experience in procurement, contract negotiation, and vendor management.
  • Demonstrated capability in budget management and operational planning.
  • Experience working with regulatory frameworks and compliance in library settings.
  • Deep knowledge of library governance, information management, and digital transformation.
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking with ability to manage ambiguity and change.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • High cultural intelligence and experience working with diverse teams.
  • Strong integrity, judgement, and alignment to UNSW and public-sector academic values.
