Purpose
A Level 3 NDT Technician in the open forging industry is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures, techniques, and standards within a forging facility.This role involves a high level of technical expertise, including the ability to interpret codes and standards, train Level I and II technicians, and collaborate with engineers and quality assurance teams.
Responsibilities
- Procedure Development: Develop and implement NDT procedures, techniques, and methodologies to meet forging industry standards and it's customer requirements.
- Training and Supervision: Train and mentor Level, I and II NDT technicians, ensuring they meet competency standards.
- Technical Support: Provide technical guidance and support to Level I and II technicians, addressing questions and resolving issues related to NDT procedures.
- Interpretation and Evaluation: Interpret NDT test results, identify defects, and determine if parts meet quality standards.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain detailed NDT reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure the proper calibration and maintenance of NDT equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant codes, standards, and regulations related to NDT.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with engineers, quality assurance teams, and other stakeholders to address technical issues and ensure quality control.
- Problem Solving: Identify and resolve issues related to NDT procedures, techniques, or equipment.
- Process Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of NDT processes and procedures, optimizing efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor Degree in Metallurgy/ Mechanical Engineering with 5-8 years of experience in Mechanical industry in Quality Management and Manufacturing Operations.
- Knowledge or certification in Non-destructive testing methods preferred
Knowledge and Skills
- ASNT Level III Certification:Must hold current ASNT Level III certification in relevant NDT methods (e.g., UT, MT, PT, RT,VT).
- Extensive Experience:Significant experience in NDT techniques, particularly in the open forging industry.
- Technical Expertise:Thorough understanding of various NDT methods, codes, and standards.
- Training and Mentoring Skills:Ability to effectively train and mentor Level I and II technicians.
- Communication Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively document reports, communicate technical information, and collaborate with other teams.
- Problem-Solving Skills:Ability to identify and resolve technical issues related to NDT processes.
- Analytical Skills:Ability to interpret NDT results and make informed decisions about the quality of forgings.
- Blueprint Reading:Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Software Proficiency:Proficient in relevant software packages (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Safety Knowledge:Thorough understanding of safety procedures and regulations related to NDT.
