We are looking for a Legal Counsel who understands the fast-moving nature of the internet, content, and media platforms. The ideal candidate will be responsible for Intellectual Property (IP) protection, copyright compliance, contracts, regulatory compliance, and risk management across all Group entities. This role will work closely with the CFO and cross-functional teams (Product, Content, Creator Ops, HR, Finance, and BD).
The Core Responsibilities For The Job Include The Following
Intellectual Property and Copyright Management:
- Manage end-to-end IP strategy, including trademarks, copyrights, licenses, and brand protection for all group products.
- Draft and negotiate IP licensing agreements, creator agreements, and partnership contracts.
- Monitor and mitigate IP infringements, and coordinate takedown notices (DMCA, platform-specific).
- Maintain the IP repository and ensure renewal and filing timelines.
Regulatory And Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the IT Act, DPDP Act, content regulations, ASCI guidelines, and other digital-media-related laws.
- Define internal policies for user content, creator monetization, live streaming, and data protection.
- Liaise with government bodies, external legal advisors, and regulatory authorities when needed.
Contracting And Documentation
- Draft, review, and negotiate:
- Vendor, creator, and influencer agreements.
- Platform/content licensing agreements.
- Employment and consultant contracts, NDAs, MoUs, and SLAs.
Compliance And Risk Management
- Identify and mitigate legal risks related to content, creators, product features, app launches, payments, etc.
- Lead internal compliance audits and ensure adherence to internal policies.
- Manage legal notices and disputes, and coordinate with external litigation counsel.
Cross-functional Advisory
- Provide legal input for product launches, marketing campaigns, creator programs, and partnerships.
- Act as a strategic advisor to the CFO and leadership team on business risks and legal safeguards.
- Train internal teams (Content/Creator Operations/HR/Product) on compliance, IP usage, and policy adherence.
Requirements
- LLB/LLM from a reputed institution.
- 3-6 years of experience in a startup, consumer tech, OTT, media, or internet company.
- Strong grounding in IP law, copyright, data protection, and IT/media regulations.
- Excellent contract drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment.
- High ownership mindset with strong problem-solving orientation.
