Role Description The Legal Associate is a full-time, on-site role located in Gurugram with a focus on supporting Sloan's global legal operations. This is a hands-on, process-driven legal generalist role that plays a critical part in ensuring operational excellence and legal compliance across Sloan's global operations, with a primary focus on systems administration, process management, and timely processing of legal documents. This role offers exposure to cross-border legal operations, opportunities to work closely with senior legal professionals in the US and India, and potential for growth into specialized or leadership roles within the legal function. The Legal Associate will cross-train and provide redundancy for both the IP and Contracts legal functions, ensuring seamless legal operations and coverage for US business needs. This role requires a strong orientation toward legal technology, workflow management, and document administration, as well as the flexibility to support a wide variety of legal and compliance tasks across jurisdictions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal Systems & Process Administration
- Administer legal technology platforms (contract lifecycle management, IP management, matter management, e-signature, etc.) and ensure data integrity, workflow accuracy, and timely document processing.
- Track, manage, and report on contract and IP matter status, deadlines, renewals, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain and update legal templates, forms, and process documentation.
- Support intake, triage, and assignment of legal requests, ensuring timely escalation and resolution.
Document & Contract Management
- Independently prepare, review, and process routine commercial contracts, including but not limited to non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), statements of work (SOWs), order forms, change orders etc. Review and process complex contracts under attorney supervision, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company standards and applicable legal requirements.
- Prepare, review, and process standard legal documents, and correspondence under attorney supervision.
- Coordinate document execution, signature, and filing for US and India matters.
- Ensure accurate recordkeeping and document retention in accordance with company policy.
- Leverage Legal AI tools and technologies to support and enhance the contract review process, including document analysis, risk identification, and clause comparison.
Cross-Functional Legal Support
- Provide day-to-day support to both the IP and Contracts legal teams, including research, first-level review, and administrative support for filings, renewals, and compliance activities.
- Cross-train with both legal functions to provide redundancy and coverage for absences, workload peaks, or special projects.
- Support compliance initiatives, policy management, and training activities as needed.
- Assist with legal hold, litigation management, and legal spend tracking as required.
US-Focused Support
- Maintain a work schedule with at least 5 hours of overlap with US business hours (typically late afternoon to evening IST) to ensure real-time collaboration with US-based legal and business teams.
- Provide direct support for US contract and IP matters, including document processing, system updates, and workflow management.
Generalist Tasks
- Support compliance tracking, reporting, and policy management.
- Assist with contract administration, including negotiation of standard terms under supervision, and vendor/customer contact activities.
- Prepare regular status reports and metrics for legal management.
- Provide legal research and project management support as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- LLB degree; licensed to practice law in India.
- 2-4 years experience in a legal, compliance, or contract administration role (in-house or law firm).
- Demonstrated experience with legal technology platforms (CLM, IP management, e-signature, etc.).
- Strong organizational, process, and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal English; able to communicate clearly with US and India teams.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Availability for at least 5 hours per day during US business hours to support US legal and business needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience supporting US-based legal teams or MNCs.
- Experience with compliance, policy management, or legal operations.
- Familiarity with IP and contract administration processes.
- Experience working with cross-functional and cross-border teams.
WORKING ARRANGEMENTS
- Hybrid work arrangement with office presence required (Minimum 3 days/week).
- Required availability for at least 5 hours during US business hours (typically late afternoon/evening in India).
- Occasional travel may be required.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Strong legal systems/process administration and document management skills.
- Legal Technology Platforms: Hands-on experience with contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems, intellectual property (IP) management tools, matter management systems, and e-signature platforms (e.g., IronClad, CPI, CounselLink, DocuSign, or similar).
- Document Management Systems: Familiarity with legal document repositories and version control tools (e.g., SharePoint, or similar).
- Workflow & Task Management: Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and task tracking platforms to manage legal workflows and deadlines.
- Data Reporting & Analytics: Ability to generate and interpret reports and dashboards using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools for legal metrics and compliance tracking.
- Communication & Collaboration Tools: Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and experience using collaboration platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams or similar) for cross-border team coordination.
- Security & Compliance Awareness: Understanding of data privacy, document security, retention practices and compliance protocols in legal tech environments.
