Job Description: Legal Associate

Role Summary
As a Legal Associate, you will play a critical hands-on role in supporting GIVA's daily legal and compliance operations. You will work closely with the Senior Legal Manager and cross-functional teams (Retail Operations, E-commerce, Marketing, Supply Chain, and HR) to ensure robust contract management, intellectual property protection, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Contract Drafting & Review
a. Draft, review, and negotiate standard commercial contracts, including retail store lease agreements, vendor/supplier contracts, NDAs, SLA agreements, logistics contracts, and marketing/influencer agreements.
b. Maintain a centralized contract repository and track agreement renewals, terminations, and legal obligation milestones.
2. Intellectual Property (IP) Protection
a. Assist in trademark filings, copyright protection, and design registrations for proprietary jewelry collections and brand assets.
b. Conduct regular policing across online e-commerce platforms and social media channels to identify and issue takedown notices against counterfeit products or trademark infringements.
3. Retail & E-Commerce Compliance
a. Ensure compliance with consumer protection laws, Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, Legal Metrology regulations, and BIS Hallmarking requirements.
b. Assist in obtaining and renewing statutory registrations and local licenses (e.g., Shops & Establishments Act, municipal licenses) across GIVA retail outlets nationwide.
c. Help align customer policies (Returns, Exchanges, Lifetime Buyback) with current consumer rights frameworks.
4. Dispute Resolution & Litigation Support
a. Coordinate with external legal counsel on customer dispute notices, consumer forum claims, and regulatory inquiries.
b. Prepare initial drafts of legal notices, replies to notices, affidavits, and internal litigation status trackers.
5. Corporate Governance & Internal Advisory
a. Assist in internal legal audits, policy drafting (data privacy/DPDP Act, employee handbooks), and statutory reporting.
b. Serve as a first point of contact for day-to-day legal queries from internal business units.
Candidate Qualifications & Skills
Educational Background: LL.B. or Integrated LL.B. (5-year course) from a recognized university/law school.
Professional Experience: 2–4 years of experience in an in-house corporate legal team (D2C, Retail, ECommerce, or FMCG preferred) or at a reputable law firm.
Core Competencies: Strong drafting abilities, foundational knowledge of IP Law, Contract Law, Consumer Protection Act, and Retail Licensing.
