Lead Data Analyst, Cloud FinOps
Location: Bengaluru
Working Type: Hybrid 3 days in office mandate
This role is critical for transforming raw cloud billing data into actionable financial insights. The ideal candidate will
possess advanced data engineering capabilities to integrate various data sources and deep expertise in AWS cost
and usage reporting to build, maintain, and troubleshoot complex FinOps analytical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for filling the identified technical and analytical gaps:
1. Data Engineering & Integration (API/ETL)
API Development: Design and write production-quality code (e.g., Python, Go) to establish and maintain
robust API connections between internal SaaS products and the FinOps data tool.
Ensure data quality, integrity, and timely availability across all integrated sources.
2. Advanced AWS Cost Reporting & Analysis
Custom Report Generation: Own the end-to-end process of generating complex, custom reports using
AWS Athena and/or Amazon Quicksight to address critical business needs.
o Develop data models and write sophisticated SQL queries in Athena for topics such as
contractual commitment tracking, validation of complex cloud charges, and detailed spend
attribution.
o Design and deliver highly effective Quicksight dashboards and visualizations based on these
custom datasets.
Contract Negotiation Support: Generate validated, specialized datasets and detailed historical analysis
using CUR data to directly support and inform cloud contract negotiations and long-term financial
strategy.
3. Reporting Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Advanced Troubleshooting: Act as the Tier 3 escalation point for issues with established FinOps reports
and dashboards in Quicksight and other tools.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Deeply review the underlying Cost and Usage Report (CUR) to identify the
specific line items, billing dimensions, or data transformation steps causing errors or inaccuracies in
reports.
Solution Implementation: Propose and implement code/query updates and necessary data schema
changes to correct report errors, improve performance, and ensure reporting stability.
Required Technical Skills & Experience
This role requires a unique combination of engineering and specialized FinOps data expertise.
FinOps Data Expertise (Non-Negotiable)
In-Depth CUR Knowledge: Demonstrated deep, hands-on understanding of the AWS Cost and Usage
Report (CUR) schema, including fields related to pricing, usage types, resources, and billing.
AWS FinOps Tools: Expert proficiency with AWS Athena for querying massive datasets and Amazon
Quicksight for advanced data visualization and dashboard development.
Experience in validating cloud provider charges against contractual agreements and identifying billing
anomalies using the raw CUR data.
Data Engineering & Programming
Expert SQL: Mastery of complex SQL for data transformation, aggregation, and performance tuning
(specifically in an Athena/Trino environment).
Programming Proficiency: Strong proficiency in a programming language (preferably SQL) for writing
integration code, working with APIs, and developing ETL/data pipelines.
Experience with BI/reporting tools and integrating data into internal platforms (APIs, scripts, or ETL
pipelines).
Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, including partitioning, schema design, and performance
optimization
General
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Data Analyst, Data Engineer, or Business Intelligence role, with
at least 2 years focused specifically on Cloud Financial Management (FinOps).
Experience working collaboratively with Finance and Engineering teams to translate business questions
into technical data solutions.
