In India, ETS plays a growing and strategic role in
large-scale education assessment, policy-aligned measurement, and capacity building, working closely with public-sector and system-level stakeholders.
Role Overview
The Lead Trainer will provide high-level academic expertise to design and deliver capacity-building initiatives focused on strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) from early grades up to Grade 5.
The role will lead the development and delivery of training programs for educators and academic stakeholders, with a strong focus on assessment-led improvement. This includes designing assessment frameworks, developing training modules, and enabling effective use of data to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
The position will also support the adoption and institutionalization of structured training and assessment practices aligned with broader education priorities and reforms.
The Lead Trainer is expected to work independently while also collaborating closely with internal teams and external experts. The role includes mentoring junior trainers and ensuring high-quality delivery across all training initiatives.

Key Responsibilities- Lead academic direction for capacity-building and assessment-related initiatives.
- Design and develop structured training modules and manuals focused on foundational literacy and numeracy for early grades.
- Plan and deliver training programs on:
- Assessment frameworks and methodologies
- Design of school-based and large-scale assessments
- Use of assessment data to improve classroom practices
- Develop hands-on, practice-oriented training content using a learning-by-doing approach.
- Provide ongoing mentoring and academic support to educators through coaching, follow-ups, and structured learning forums.
- Design and deliver training on data-driven decision-making to enable effective use of learning evidence.
- Establish standard processes and guidelines to ensure consistency and continuous improvement in training and assessment practices.
- Lead and mentor a team of trainers (up to 5–7 members), ensuring quality and timely delivery.
- Support training of field personnel involved in conducting assessments, including orientation on protocols and quality standards.
- Ensure alignment of all training content and delivery with relevant education priorities and reform initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., monitoring, evaluation, data teams) to strengthen tracking and reporting of training outcomes.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups and contribute effectively in team environments.
- Learner-centric and stakeholder-oriented approach, with strong relationship-building skills.
- Good understanding of assessment practices and pedagogy, with the ability to translate concepts into practical training.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on execution, timelines, and quality delivery.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills (English and Hindi preferred).
- Ability to work effectively in complex and evolving environments.
Education
- Postgraduate degree in Education, Language, Mathematics, or a related field.
- B.Ed., M.Ed., or equivalent teaching qualification preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of experience in teaching, training, or assessment-related roles.
- Experience in designing and delivering training programs on pedagogy, assessments, or instructional improvement.
- Exposure to foundational literacy and numeracy concepts is desirable.
- Classroom teaching experience is preferred.
