Job Description - Application Packaging engineer / (SCCM / Intune)

Role Overview
Senior-level (Medium to Complex packaging ownership)
We are looking for an experienced Application Packaging Engineer to join our End-User Computing / IT Infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for packaging, testing, and deploying applications using industry-standard packaging frameworks, with strong hands-on expertise in PSADT (PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit) 4.13 and Microsoft SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager). This role requires the ability to independently handle medium and complex packaging requests within defined SLA timelines, troubleshoot installation-related incidents, and support SCCM-based application deployment and server patching activities.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, test, and package applications (MSI, EXE, MSIX) for enterprise-wide silent deployment.
Develop and maintain deployment scripts using PSADT 4.13, ensuring adherence to packaging standards and best practices.
Independently take ownership of medium and complex packaging requests, ensuring delivery within agreed SLA timelines.
Create, configure, and deploy applications through SCCM (Applications, Deployment Types, Collections, Detection Methods, Requirement Rules).
Troubleshoot and resolve application installation failures and packaging-related incidents raised by end users or the service desk.
Support SCCM-based server and workstation patching activities, including patch deployment scheduling, compliance monitoring, and remediation.
Perform root-cause analysis on recurring installation/deployment issues and implement permanent fixes.
Maintain detailed packaging documentation, including install/uninstall switches, detection logic, and known issues/workarounds.
Coordinate with application owners, vendors, and infrastructure teams to gather packaging requirements and validate installer behaviour.
Ensure all packages comply with organizational security, compliance, and naming standards prior to production release.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Strong hands-on experience with PSADT (PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit) version 4.
Proven experience packaging medium to complex applications independently and within SLA.
Working knowledge of Microsoft SCCM for application creation, deployment, and troubleshooting.
Experience handling application installation issue incidents/tickets end-to-end.
Solid understanding of Windows Installer (MSI) technology, silent install switches, and installer frameworks (InstallShield, Admin Studio, Orca, Advanced Installer, etc.).
Strong PowerShell scripting skills for automation and custom deployment logic.
Familiarity with Windows registry structure, Group Policy, and Active Directory basics.
Experience using diagnostic tools such as Process Monitor, Process Explorer, and Windows Event Viewer for troubleshooting.
Good understanding of ITIL processes, particularly Incident, Change, and Problem Management.

Desired / Good-to-Have Skills

Broader SCCM administration exposure, including server patching, compliance baselines, and collection management.
Experience with MSIX packaging and/or App-V virtualization.
Exposure to Intune or other modern endpoint management platforms.
Basic scripting knowledge in VBScript or batch for legacy application support.
Experience with macOS packaging tools (PKG, Jamf) is a plus.

Experience & Education

4-7 years of experience in Application packaging and SCCM/Intune.
Bachelor's degree in IT or related field
Prior experience supporting enterprise desktop environments in a mid-to-large organization is preferred.
