- DTCC offers a flexible/hybrid model of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote (onsite Tuesdays, Wednesdays and a third day unique to each team or employee).
The Impact you will have in this role:
As a Lead Database Engineer, you will lead with strategic vision that focuses on engineering, standardization, automation, security, and resilience of Microsoft SQL Server platforms supporting enterprise and mission‑critical applications. By combining SQL Server administration expertise with an engineering mindset, you will improve platform stability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
Your Primary Responsibilities:
- Engineer, administer, and support Microsoft SQL Server database platforms across production and non-production environments
- Design and implement standardized DBA patterns for build, configuration, patching, and upgrades
- Lead database provisioning, refreshes, migrations, and lifecycle management activities
- Own platform-level reliability, availability, and performance outcomes
- Engineer and support HA/DR solutions using Always On Availability Groups
- Participate in DR design reviews, failover testing, and recovery validation
- Proactively monitor SQL Server health, capacity, and performance
- Perform query tuning, index strategy optimization, and tempdb configuration
- Partner with application teams to address systemic performance issues
- Engineer and enforce SQL Server security standards (roles, permissions, least privilege)
- Implement and support encryption in transit and at rest (TLS, TDE, certificates)
- Support vulnerability remediation, audits, and regulatory compliance initiatives
- Develop and maintain automation using PowerShell, T‑SQL, and Ansible (or similar tools)
- Build reusable scripts and tooling to reduce manual effort and operational risk
- Create and maintain engineering runbooks, SOPs, and platform documentation
- Provide L3 support for complex production issues with strong RCA ownership
- Participate in on-call rotations and planned change activities
- Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, security, and application engineering teams
- Mentor junior DBAs and contribute to team upskilling
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience
Talents Needed for Success:
- Strong hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA in an engineering-focused team
- T-SQL programming & RDBMS experience
- Proficiency in PowerShell & Python
- Basic Ansible skills
- CI/CD experience (GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins)
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum & JIRA
- Knowledge of ITSM processes & ServiceNow
- Exposure to cloud or hybrid SQL platforms (Azure SQL, AWS RDS)
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience in the financial services industry is good to have
