Job Description

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Investments team at Mercer, a Marsh Business. This role will be based in Mumbai. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office

Lead Specialist – Investments

Alternatives– Data Support

We will count on you to:

  • Manage and support alternative asset data (private equity, real estate, hedge funds, infrastructure), ensuring data completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Validate, reconcile, and cleanse alternative asset data from multiple sources to maintain high data quality for reporting and analytics.
  • Collaborate with alternative data vendors (e.g., iLevel, Preqin, S&P EDM, DealCloud, Altvia) and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate data delivery and issue resolution.
  • Monitor and support data pipelines and workflows, ensuring smooth data ingestion, transformation, and integration into investment platforms.
  • Assist in defining and tracking service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) related to data quality and delivery.
  • Document data processes, mappings, business rules, and support procedures to maintain transparency and operational efficiency.
  • Support data governance initiatives including metadata management, data quality controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Use SQL and relational database tools to extract, analyze, and validate structured and unstructured data sets.
  • Prepare and present data quality reports, dashboards, and insights to investment teams and management.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including investment research, portfolio management, technology, and risk to support data needs and resolve issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance data quality, operational processes, and automation.
  • Support ad hoc data requests and analytics related to alternative investments.

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 5+ years experience in data support, data operations, or analytics focused on alternative investments such as private equity, hedge funds, real estate, or infrastructure.
  • Practical, hands-on proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL) for data extraction, validation, and reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with alternative asset data providers and platforms such as iLevel, Preqin, S&P EDM, DealCloud, or similar
  • Direct operational experience working with alternatives data providers or platforms (e.g., iLevel, Preqin, S&P EDM, DealCloud, Altvia, Diligent Vault, Vidrio, HFR), including ingesting vendor feeds, mapping fields, and resolving data issues.
  • Strong Excel skills, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and lookup functions, for data analysis, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Solid understanding of alternative investment data elements and basic performance metrics such as commitments, NAV, cashflows, IRR, valuation dates, vintage, and exposures.
  • Proven experience performing data validation, cleansing, and reconciliation across multiple source systems with strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal stakeholders (investment teams, technology, operations) and external vendors, with the ability to clearly explain data issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple operational requests, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to resolving data discrepancies
  • Effective communicator who can clearly explain data issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Familiarity with alternative asset data providers and platforms such as iLevel, Preqin, S&P EDM, DealCloud, or similar
  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment with evolving data needs
  • Relevant certifications such as CFA Level I or CAIA are a plus but not mandatory
