Your Opportunity

We are seeking a Lead Digital Solutions Architect to lead and further build a high-performing, cross-functional team responsible for the cloud architecture of Stantec's digital portfolio. This lead will also guide strategic direction for new technologies and platform governance working alongside the Azure Business Solutions team. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of business operations, cloud strategy, and organizational enablement, ensuring digital initiatives are delivered with discipline, consistency, and measurable value.

The Lead Solutions Architect plays a pivotal role within Stantec's Digital Centre of Excellence, providing technical leadership across complex digital solutions while ensuring pragmatic, cost-effective, secure, and delivery-focused outcomes. The role aligns our strategy with the execution of effective digital solutions, setting architectural standards, guiding teams, and enabling high-quality solutions that can be safely operated in regulated environments.

Working within the Digital Centre of Excellence, valuing practical outcomes, secure-by-design thinking, and real-world delivery excellence inside Stantec's Microsoft-based environment, you will help shape how digital solutions are conceived, secured and deployed across the organization.

Key Responsibilities – Solution Architecture & Technical Leadership

  • Oversee the design and governance of end-to-end digital solutions across cloud, data, analytics and platform services.
  • Serve as a key conduit between the digital practices and IT to enable the use of Microsoft Azure resources in their work
  • Define and uphold architectural principles that favor pragmatic, repeatable and maintainable solutions.
  • Act as a technical authority for complex projects and internal digital initiatives.
  • Coordinate directly with Stantec IT on the adoption of new cloud-based technologies for our solutions, including the adoption of appropriate policies to secure them
  • Embed zero-trust principles to support secure operation of solution designs.
  • Embed zero-trust principles into solution designs to ensure secure operations and address security threats.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Apply pragmatic problem-solving and sound cloud architectural judgment to deliver robust solutions.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a security-conscious mindset that balances risk management with project delivery focus.
  • Keen focus on economical, but secure solutions that enable cost-effective operations and maintenance
  • Lead and mentor solution architects and engineers to elevate architectural maturity, even without formal authority.
  • Champion DevSecOps practices and provide oversight to ensure secure CI/CD pipelines and approaches like containerized workloads.
  • Contribute to reusable patterns, reference architectures, and actionable guidance that translate architectural intent into buildable, supportable solutions.
  • Strong background in cloud platforms and modern application architectures, especially Microsoft Azure and 365 technologies
  • Practical experience with security architecture and DevSecOps practices.
  • Relevant industry certifications, including Microsoft Azure Certifications
  • Experience delivering solutions in regulated or security-conscious environments.
  • 10+ years experience as a senior or lead solutions architect delivering enterprise-scale digital solutions.
  • Experience in operations, enterprise architecture, or platform leadership roles is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the AEC industry is preferred

Education, Qualifications & Experience

Desirable

  • Experience with container platforms and software supply-chain security.
  • Experience with application delivery lifecycles
  • Good working knowledge of emerging technologies such as Microsoft Foundry for AI development and Fabric for data management
  • Background supporting highly secure environments, including critical infrastructure or heavily regulated clients.
  • Strong familiarity with enterprise systems, cloud governance, and operational performance management.
  • Working knowledge of project management and operational frameworks such as Agile and Waterfall is preferred.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
