Job Description

Job Requirements

At Quest Global, it's not just what we do but how and why we do it that makes us different. With over 25 years as an engineering services provider, we believe in the power of doing things differently to make the impossible possible. Our people are driven by the desire to make the world a better place—to make a positive difference that contributes to a brighter future. We bring together technologies and industries, alongside the contributions of diverse individuals who are empowered by an intentional workplace culture, to solve problems better and faster.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Wearable IO Sensor Validation Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the bring-up, characterization, and comprehensive validation of critical input/output (IO) and sensor subsystems for our next-generation wearable devices, including smartwatches, fitness trackers, and AR/VR headsets .

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and user experience of our devices by rigorously testing user/indicator LEDs, glass display touch interfaces, and a suite of inertial and environmental sensors (IMU, gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer, and pedometer algorithms) . You will work closely with cross-functional teams spanning hardware design, firmware, and product management to define test methodologies, build automated test fixtures, and drive hardware quality from early prototyping through mass production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sensor Bring-Up & Characterization: Lead Hardware bring-up and detailed electrical/functional characterization of IO subsystems, including user/indicator LEDs, IMUs (accelerometers and gyroscopes), magnetometers, and capacitive glass touch sensors .
  • LED & Display Validation: Execute rigorous optical and electrical validation on user LEDs and displays. Test parameters including brightness, color coordinates, spectral profiling, and photobiological safety compliance. Validate glass cover integration and its impact on optical performance .
  • Glass Touch Interface Testing: Validate projected capacitive (PCAP) touch performance through the cover glass. Characterize multi-touch accuracy, latency, Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), and edge cases such as water droplet rejection, thermal drift, and glove support .
  • Motion & Orientation Testing: Design and execute test plans for 6-DOF and 9-DOF IMU systems. Validate gyroscope angular rate accuracy, accelerometer linearity, and magnetometer compass calibration under various thermal and magnetic interference conditions .
  • Algorithm & Pedometer Validation: Validate the hardware-firmware integration of step-counting (pedometer) and activity classification algorithms using standardized treadmill protocols and reference motion capture systems .
  • Test Automation: Develop and maintain automated test scripts and data analysis tools using Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW to interface with laboratory equipment and streamline regression testing .

We are known for our extraordinary people who make the impossible possible every day. Questians are driven by hunger, humility, and aspiration. We believe that our company culture is the key to our ability to make a true difference in every industry we reach. Our teams regularly invest time and dedicated effort into internal culture work, ensuring that all voices are heard.

We wholeheartedly believe in the diversity of thought that comes with fostering a culture rooted in respect, where everyone belongs, is valued, and feels inspired to share their ideas. We know embracing our unique differences makes us better, and that solving the worlds hardest engineering problems requires diverse ideas, perspectives, and backgrounds. We shine the brightest when we tap into the many dimensions that thrive across over 21,000 difference-makers in our workplace.

Work Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of industry experience in hardware system validation, sensor characterization, or test engineering, specifically focused on consumer electronics, mobile devices, or wearables .
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong foundational understanding of sensor physics, optical measurement principles, I2C/SPI/UART communication protocols, and mixed-signal hardware debugging.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python (NumPy, SciPy, PyTest) or MATLAB for instrument control, test automation, and statistical data analysis.
  • Hands-On Debugging: Experience using standard electrical bench equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, logic analyzers, and programmable power supplies.
  • Tools and Test Environment Expertise

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with the following industry-standard tools, equipment, and testing environments:

Sensor Subsystem --- Required Tools, Equipment & Environments

  • Glass Display Touch --- Automated stylus robots, impedance analyzers (e.g., Zurich Instruments MFIA), and specialized touch test fixtures for SNR, jitter, and water drop interference characterization .
  • IMU (Gyro/Accel) --- Precision multi-axis rate tables (e.g., Acutronic, Ideal Aerosmith), thermal chambers for temperature drift analysis, and vibration shakers .
  • Magnetometer --- 3-axis Helmholtz coil systems for controlled magnetic field generation, magnetic shielding enclosures, and reference fluxgate magnetometers .
  • Pedometer / Activity --- Standardized motorized treadmills, reference IMU systems, and optical motion capture systems (e.g., Vicon) for ground-truth step validation .
  • General Automation --- Python, LabVIEW, and standard benchtop instrumentation (Keysight, Tektronix, Saleae).
