Job Description
The Process Owner for Calibration, Measurement Test Equipment, and Procurement is responsible for leading and harmonizing all activities related to the lifecycle management of laboratory equipment across the integrated laboratories network. This includes calibration standards, equipment qualification, procurement strategy, and asset governance. The role ensures technical reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency while supporting the broader business strategy for laboratory excellence and innovation. The Process Owner drives process excellence, reduces complexity, and enables data-driven decision-making through standardized KPIs and performance metrics.
Reporting to the Director Lab Operational Excellence, this role is the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for Measurement Test Equipment and Calibration across all integrated laboratories.
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in any major UL location globally.
Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the global owner of calibration and measurement equipment processes across all integrated laboratories.
- Define and harmonize procedures for calibration scheduling and traceability, equipment qualification and requalification, maintenance and lifecycle management, procurement and onboarding of new test equipment.
- Ensure consistency and clarity in documentation and workflows across all sites.
- Implement and incorporate technical decisions from Technical Competence Centers (e.g., GLTL, PrEs) into standardized operating procedures.
- Ensure alignment with ISO 17025 and other relevant accreditation standards for calibration and equipment management.
- Develop, own, and implement the General Excellence Laboratory Guideline for calibration and equipment processes.
- Define global procurement standards for laboratory test equipment, including vendor qualification and technical specifications.
- Collaborate with regional and global procurement teams to ensure cost-effective and compliant sourcing.
- Oversee onboarding, acceptance testing, and documentation of new equipment.
- Maintain centralized visibility of equipment inventory, calibration status, and lifecycle data.
- Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as calibration compliance rate, equipment downtime and availability, procurement lead time, and planned vs. actual effort for equipment-related activities.
- Ensure data integrity and transparency in equipment tracking and calibration records.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives based on performance trends and audit findings.
- Co-develop and implement the Laboratory Playbook, ensuring calibration and equipment processes are clearly defined and regularly reviewed.
- Establish governance for equipment documentation, including version control and stakeholder input.
- Collaborate with Sub-Process Owners to align calibration and equipment readiness with testing and order processing workflows.
- Act as a change agent to support labs in transitioning to harmonized calibration and equipment procedures.
- Engage stakeholders across regions to ensure adoption and alignment.
- Identify and promote internal and external best practices in calibration, equipment qualification, and procurement.
- Introduce a risk-based approach to evaluate and streamline equipment-related SOPs without compromising quality or compliance.
- Support business planning and strategic development of new labs and services.
- Provide input into lab consolidation efforts, ensuring equipment processes scale effectively.
- Collaborate with digital and IT teams to embed equipment workflows into digital platforms for automation, traceability, and analytics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Metrology, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field. Master's degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in calibration, measurement test equipment management, or related process management within laboratory or manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in equipment lifecycle management, calibration standards, procurement, and asset governance.
- Experience in developing and harmonizing operational workflows and documentation across multiple sites or regions.
- Proven ability to drive technical reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency aligned with global business strategy.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent process improvement training.
- ISO 17025 or industry-specific compliance certifications are a plus.
- Strong analytical thinking, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to lead through influence.
- English fluency required.
What we offer:
Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $116,200-160,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
