Lead PD Aero & Hard Alloys

• Job Purpose
• Plan, monitor, and drive Product Development activities to ensure successful commercialization of new products. As the organization strategic goal to expand its downstream business in Aerospace extrusion market, the current job profile is intended to co-ordinate with extrusion plant teams and work with them to qualify the plant process in order to supply products for Aerospace customers. The job will focus to stabilize and validate special processes in plants to get NADCAP certification (Special Processes), develop hard alloys and interact with die shop team to develop new aerospace profiles with optimum efficiencies and thereby to make projects viable and control them within budgeted costs and timeline.
• Interact with Aerospace & Defence customers and technology partners to understand the product requirements, and work with internal team for developing these products.
• Provide leadership and support for the design, development, refinement, and implementation of aerospace & defence products by
  
  

i) Initiating proactive research to identify consumer needs and wants

ii) Develop new products to meet consumer needs;

iii) Work with manufacturing units to commercialize the new products, and iv) Lead status meetings to drive programs or new product initiatives to market.

v) Periodically presents project updates to the leadership team.

• Co-ordinate and work with Aerospace manufacturers, Tier1 Supplier to understand various product range and their specifications and create a timebound action plans to develop capability.
• Convince the management for new investment opportunity to address the capability gaps and co-ordinate with plant teams for time bound implementation of new projects.
• Implement new product development practice standardization across Hindalco's various units.
• Lead the transfer of technology from technology partners and other associates and percolate it to plants for the speedy implementation.
• To act as a bridge between Customer and Hindalco team starting from profile development and ending with product acceptance so as to satisfy customer requirements.
  
  

Functional Requirement Of Role

• Understanding of end-use Customer Product application and its function
• Understanding of Extrusion process, critical process parameters etc.
• Understanding of Die Design
• Proficiency of NADCAP (special process) certification process,
• Auditing experience of ISO 9001, AS9100 and NADCAP special processes
• Train people across all extrusion plant on new product development procedures and practices.
• Control and monitor Heat treatment activities and Pyrometry as per AMS 2750 in line with customer requirements.
• Drive product trials by monitoring the process parameters at each stage - Billet Casting to Post extrusion stage.
• Responsible for various customer and internal audits of Heat treatment as per NADCAP checklist.
• Identify the CAPEX requirement to develop new products such as tooling, equipment and measuring instrument cost.
• Knowledge of Aluminium EN, ASTM material standard

New Product Development

i) Translate Customer requirements to Product specification

• Lead Project kick off meetings with customers to understand the requirements
• Lead Feasibility reviews with Cross functional Team to develop Material Specs, special processes required for manufacturability
• Ability to read and understand Customer part drawings and translate the critical characteristics to internal process drawings by providing direction to the manufacturing team.
• Strong understanding of aerospace & defence specification and customer requirements.
• Work with Plant & HIC team to develop hard alloys and optimise the heat treatment cycle.
  
  

ii) Sample Submission

• Coordinate with marketing team, die shop and plant team to develop die and successfully conduct trials to meet the customer requirements.
• Work closely with Die shop team for extrusion die tool readiness for project kick off.
• Closely work with Marketing and Customer to send trial samples for approval.
• Develop Critical characteristic check list to be followed during production in order to meet the Aerospace & Defence specification requirements. .
  
  

iii) Document the developments and generate systems to capture and retrieve them

• Develop a system to capture, update and retrieve the customer requirements and the latest versions.
• Develop a system for capturing Critical characteristic and the specific process parameters for product portfolio management after the development.
  
  

iv) CAPEX- Projects

• Develop manufacturing process flow for new products and identify the equipment required for manufacturing and testing by analyzing existing equipment capability and conducting gap analysis.
• Identify the CAPEX requirement to develop new products such as tooling, equipment and measuring instrument cost.
• Lead CAPEX proposal meeting with Top management to present the resource required for new projects.
• Aerospace Audits
• Lead AS9100, NADCAP certification internal audit at regular intervals and help plant teams to identify the gaps.
• Support the plant teams on mitigating the gaps and qualify the external audits.
• Guide the plant teams to adhere to Aerospace & Defence standard such as AMS 2750, RDE, Mil Standards etc.
• Customer Centricity
• Enhance customer Engagement and Customer satisfaction by acting as a bridge between customer and Hindalco manufacturing team
• Visit Customers and tier1manufacturing suppliers to understand the product requirements. Support customers to develop new products, in terms of feasibility etc.
• Monitor the trials and ensure the sample approval process is completed successfully within project timeline.
• Collect customer feedback and consequently work on the improvement areas.
• Standardization of process
• Support the plant team in Upgradation of Technology and Equipment to standardize the processes.
• Support the plant team for various Quality related certifications and product specifications as and when required.
• Partnering with Technology Associates & Vendors
• Identify the technology and capability for developing New Products, identify equipment, technology vendors and associates, interact with them for partnering on the product development or technology transfers
• Identify equipment, technology vendors and interact with them for new equipment installation and commissioning.
• Product Quality
• Organize meeting with Customer team to identify the product requirements.
• Drive QAP and product Data sheets based on the implied needs of the product
• Guide the team to use appropriate alloy, process and testing methods to ensure product Quality
• Support plant teams to work on Process Flow, FMEA and Control Plans
• Work on Reverse FMEA and apply Lessons Learned to reduce defects and improve efficiency in new launches.
• Monitor and control the critical process parameters by coordinating with plant teams to meet product quality requirements.
