Job Description
Job Description: Lead / Manager – Hardware Design Engineering
Location: Pune, Maharashtra, India
Experience Level: 8 to 20 Years
Department: Hardware Engineering / R&D
Employment Type: Full-time
Role Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled and dynamic Lead / Manager – Hardware Design Engineer to head our hardware engineering initiatives. In this role, you will lead end-to-end hardware architecture, board design, power electronics, and high-speed PCB development while mentoring a team of engineers.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical authority across high-speed digital designs, multi-layer PCBs (10+ layers), power converters/high-voltage systems, and FPGA/CMU integrations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design
- Architecture & Hardware Design: Lead the complete lifecycle of complex hardware platforms, from conceptual architecture and component selection to design, prototyping, and production validation.
- High-Speed & Multi-layer PCB Design: Design and review complex multi-layer PCBs (10 to 16+ layers) with strict high-speed layout guidelines, controlled impedance routing, and signal/power integrity (SI/PI) considerations.
- Power Electronics & High Voltage: Architect and design high-voltage circuits, power converters, power management units, and thermal management strategies for industrial/automotive/aerospace-grade applications.
- FPGA & Embedded Hardware Integration: Integrate complex FPGA architectures, high-speed interfaces, and communication measurement units (CMU) / custom control loops into system designs.
Project & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing hardware engineering team.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Embedded Firmware, Mechanical, Thermal, Testing, and Manufacturing operations.
- Drive design reviews (schematic, PCB layout, SI/PI, thermal, DFM/DFA/DFT) to ensure robust design practices.
- Interface with external vendors, component suppliers, and EMS partners for rapid prototyping and mass manufacturing.
Compliance & Testing
- Ensure hardware designs comply with international safety, environmental, and industry-specific standards (e.g., CE, UL, ISO 26262, MIL-STD).
- Oversee hands-on bring-up, debugging, EMI/EMC compliance testing, and environmental qualification.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have Technical Skills
- High-Speed Design Expertise: Hands-on design experience with high-speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe, DDR3/DDR4/DDR5, Ethernet, USB 3.0+, SerDes).
- Multi-Layer PCB Routing: Proven expertise in high-density multi-layer designs (10+ layers) using top-tier EDA tools (Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or Mentor Graphics PADS/Xpedition).
- Power Electronics & High Voltage: In-depth knowledge of high-voltage designs (AC-DC, DC-DC, gate drivers, isolated power supplies, and thermal dissipation management).
- FPGA / CMU Integration: Experience integrating FPGA/CPLD platforms and specialised modules like Communication Measurement Units (CMU).
Experience & Education
- Experience: 8 to 20 years of hands-on experience in hardware R&D and board-level design, with demonstrated experience leading engineering teams.
- Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Power Electronics, or related fields.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) simulation tools (Ansys HFSS/SIwave, Keysight ADS, HyperLynx).
- Exposure to automotive (EV/BMS/Drive Inverters), industrial automation, or telecommunication product designs.
- Strong familiarity with EMI/EMC troubleshooting techniques and chamber testing procedures.
