Role Overview - Support Engineer L2 (Backup and Recovery Services)

The Support Engineer L2 - Backup Services will provide operational support for enterprise backup and recovery environments, with a primary focus on Commvault. The role involves monitoring backup jobs, resolving incidents, performing restores, ensuring backup health, and supporting cloud backup integrations using Veeam, Wasabi, and Metallic 365.

Required Skills & Expertise

• 4-6 years of experience in backup administration, operations, and support.
• Strong hands-on experience with Commvault: job monitoring, troubleshooting, configuration, policies, and restores.
• Working knowledge of Veeam Backup & Replication, Wasabi cloud storage, and Metallic 365.
• Good understanding of backup strategies, retention rules, recovery workflows, and cloud-based backup integrations.
• Experience performing restores for file systems, VMs, databases, and O365 workloads.
• Familiarity with storage basics, virtualization environments (VMware/Hyper-V), and cloud backup concepts.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for backup failures and performance issues.
• Ability to work in rotational shifts and handle L2 incidents and service requests.
• Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate with L3 teams, vendors, and customers.

Must-Have Skills

• Solid working experience with Commvault backup operations (primary skill).
• Ability to perform daily health checks, backup monitoring, and technical issue resolution.
• Hands-on experience with restores, job configuration, troubleshooting, and log analysis.
• Experience supporting cloud backup integrations, including Veeam, Wasabi, and Metallic 365.
• Knowledge of backup policies, schedules, retention, media management, and cloud connectors.
• Ability to escalate issues appropriately and coordinate with L3 teams.

Good-to-Have Skills

• Commvault or Veeam certifications (preferred).
• Basic scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash) for automation.
• Exposure to DR workflows or failover testing.
• Understanding of network/storage fundamentals (SAN/NAS, throughput, connectivity).
• ITIL certification or experience in ITIL-based service operations.
