Lead

The Lead Medical Coder is responsible for overseeing coding operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards, and serving as the primary resource for coding-related inquiries. This role involves mentoring and training coding staff, resolving complex coding issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize coding workflows and reimbursement processes.

Designation: Lead Coding (Multispecialty E&M-IP, OP, ED,Anesthesia and Radiology)

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Act as the primary contact for coding-related questions from team members and clients.
• Provide training, coaching, and guidance to coding staff on best practices and regulatory updates.
• Assist in work allocation and monitor team performance to maintain efficiency.
• Analyze coding workflows and recommend process improvements.
• Generate and review reports to track coding productivity, accuracy, and compliance.
• Participate in cross-functional meetings to enhance coding efficiency and reimbursement processes.
• Be the primary contact for coding questions relating to existing client operations as well as onboarding clients.
• Maintain efficient work allocations for the team
• Set team direction, resolve problems and provide guidance to entire team
• Clarify performance KPIs, audit for compliance and accuracy, train and retrain as necessary
• Work cross functionally to solve outstanding coding claim issues
• Identify potential coding and DRG errors, research appropriate guidelines to support recommended changes, and communicate the changes to the coder involved on a timely basis
• Resolve coding and clinical documentation errors/ issues/problems by consulting with HRC senior management
• Responsible for timely, thorough data collection and coding compliance with regulatory agencies to include federal, state, and local entities
• Follow, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of, industry coding and documentation guidelines (e.g., Official ICD-10 Coding and Billing Guidelines, Coding Clinic advice, company policies, and AHIMA/ACDIS Query Guidelines) so as to maintain system-wide coding consistency and remain in compliance with governmental and other regulatory guidelines.
• Should train team on updated guidelines on regular interval including annual updates.
• Review reports to identify specific issues, investigate and correct as per the coding guidelines, and implement solutions.
• Coordinate and/or directs process improvement opportunities

Eligibility Criteria:

• CPC, CCS, CIC, RHIT, or RHIA certification.
• Minimum of 8+ years of medical coding experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong expertise in E&M (IP/OP), Emergency Department, Radiology, and Anesthesia coding.
• Experience in coding audits, training, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
