We are looking for a strategic and client-facing Lead Generative AI Engineer to join our freelance talent network. This network is comprised of senior, consultative individuals who partner with us on pre-sales activities, discovery sessions, and short-term proof-of-concept (PoC) projects, often lasting around six weeks with the potential to extend. As a Lead Consultant, you will be at the forefront of shaping and delivering high-impact GenAI solutions, taking ownership from conception to deployment for our clients. This role requires individuals who are established independent consultants, comfortable with short-notice, and open to fractional or project-based engagements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Solution Leadership: Engage directly with clients to understand their business challenges and lead the ideation and design of innovative Generative AI solutions.
• Technical Architecture: Translate client needs into actionable solution concepts, defining the architecture, data strategy, model selection, and tooling required for success.
• Project Ownership: Lead the end-to-end delivery of GenAI solutions, ensuring technical quality, alignment with business goals, and timely execution of project milestones.
• Team Mentorship: Guide and mentor cross-functional teams, including other engineers and data scientists, fostering best practices and ensuring project accountability.
• Hands-On Contribution: While leading the project, remain hands-on with tools, models, and code to prototype, build, and troubleshoot complex components of the application.
• Stakeholder Management: Serve as the key technical point of contact for clients, managing expectations, providing clear progress updates, and maintaining strong relationships.
• Proposal Development: Collaborate with Andela's internal teams to co-develop tailored proposals, Statements of Work (SOWs), and implementation roadmaps.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience leading technical teams and taking ownership of the design, development, and deployment of AI-driven solutions.
• Strong, client-facing communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both executive and technical stakeholders.
• Deep understanding of Generative AI technologies, including LLMs (e.g., GPT, Claude, LLaMA), RAG architectures, vector databases, embeddings, and agentic systems.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy GenAI solutions using Python and relevant frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex).
• Hands-on experience with cloud-based ML/AI services such as AWS Sagemaker, Azure OpenAI, or Google Vertex AI.
• Prior experience in a consulting, pre-sales, or freelance capacity is strongly preferred, demonstrating an ability to work effectively with external clients.
• Comfort with the dynamic nature of short-term PoC projects where requirements may evolve.

Availability:

• 5 - 8 hours overlap with EST, according to client needs
• Immediate or up to 1-2 weeks notice
• Open to short-term projects such as discovery proposals and 6 weeks POCs
