Position Summary:
- Ferguson is seeking a Full Stack Developer to design, build, and support modern, scalable applications across backend services and frontend user interfaces. This role will contribute to Ferguson's ongoing modernization journey while also delivering responsive React based user experiences. You will participate in all aspects of the Software Development lifecycle by supporting existing software development efforts and troubleshooting issues as they occur while also developing new software code across multiple small to medium projects concurrently. We're looking for a team member with a passion to learn new technologies and the ability to produce in a technology-driven environment.
- Responsibilities will include a deep knowledge and understanding of the Middleware tier; developing REST/SOAP API's and services; implementing changes to the database and service model; creating new modules; developing integrations with 3rd-party platforms; and managing the triage of software incidents. As well as JavaScript / TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3 and frontend performance and component design best practices.
- Must be skilled in the technologies listed below and possess excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate will be a back-end developer (Java/AKS/Spring/MongoDB) with SysAdmin/DevOps experience in AKS and thrive in a fast-paced enterprise environment where each team-member is vital to the overall success of the Ferguson product line.
- The ideal candidate for this role will be someone who possesses strong leadership skills and who can be a primary resource for Ferguson's development and engineering teams. You must be capable of working independently, collaboratively within the team as well as collaboratively with other teams.
- As a senior engineer, this role will provide technical leadership, influence design decisions, mentor team members, and collaborate closely with architects, product owners, and cross functional teams to ensure high quality, resilient, and future ready solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of full stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, and React
- Responsible for analyzing and troubleshooting complex problems and providing solutions to overcome those problems using the latest technologies
- Drive modernization efforts migrating legacy integrations from Java 8 and Apache Camel to Spring Boot on Java 17+, with forward compatibility for Java 21
- Design, build, and govern RESTful APIs following enterprise integration and security standards
- Architect and implement event driven solutions using Azure Service Bus
- Design and optimize data access using MongoDB (NoSQL), ensuring scalability and performance
- Develop reusable, high quality React components and frontend patterns aligned to UX standards
- Enforce build, packaging, and dependency standards using Maven
- Define and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, promoting automation and DevOps best practices
- Collaborate with product, architecture, QA, and operations teams to translate complex business needs into technical solutions
- Provide technical guidance and code reviews, promoting clean code and best practices
- Identify and address performance, reliability, and security risks proactively
- Produce and maintain technical and architectural documentation
- Support production stability and lead resolution of complex technical issues
- Mentor junior and mid level engineers, contributing to team capability and engineering maturity
- Review team practices to identify areas of improvement
- Work with vendors to resolve 3rd Level support issues
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 6+ years of hands on experience as a Full Stack or Software Engineer
- Strong backend expertise with Java (8+), Spring Boot, and enterprise integration patterns
- Expert level experience developing REST style services that deliver responses in both JSON and XML.
- Familiarity with IntelliJ, Eclipse, Maven, BitBucket & GIT/GitHub
- Good knowledge of IT disciplines, e.g., software applications and interfaces, production operations, quality assurance, systems management, etc.
- Experience with Azure Kubernetes service and hybrid cloud
- Proven experience delivering frontend applications using React
- Experience building event driven architectures (Azure Service Bus preferred)
- Solid experience with NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB
- Hands on experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation (Jenkins preferred)
- Experience modernizing or refactoring legacy systems
- Must be self-motivated, proactive, creative, and efficient in identifying issues with strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to details
- Strong collaboration, communication, and technical leadership skills
- Ability to influence design decisions and guide teams through complex technical challenges
