What You'll Do
- Lead design & development of Overhead & underground medium voltage protection system/ sub-system as per marketing requirements
- Complete system/ sub-system component sizing, modeling and simulation to meet customer requirements and IEEE standards, especially with di-electric, partial discharge, thermal, structural and environmental requirements
- Design medium voltage underground products such as connectors, cold shrink joints, elbows, bushings considering manufacturability and assembly
- Develop innovative solutions to minimize iterations and quick prototyping
- Accountable for providing engineering solutions for field issues, plant quality issues, retrofits, etc.
- Collaborate with SCM to develop ecosystem in India for prototype and testing capabilities
- Research, review, and implement best-practices, new and emerging technologies, and design patterns to new and existing development
- Maintain and enhance technical proficiency in medium voltage related development environments, processes, and tools
- Plan and manage development work to achieve on-time delivery of NPD, features and enhancements
- Coordinate and collaborate with product manager, design, simulation, reliability, marketing and manufacturing development teams to produce engineering designs and specifications for new features and enhancements
- Identify, communicate and mitigate risks as they arise during development
- Mentor and coach less experienced members of the team in all aspects of GD&T, manufacturing, assembly etc.
- Generate ideas and innovative solutions which will provide competitive edge to business products
- Think creatively and come out with new proposals and present them to stakeholders
- Develop design guidelines, best practices and lessons learnt documents and shares with peers and team
- Actively participates in paper presentations, tech talks and external university forums.
- Estimate work load, establish and maintain project schedules and monitor progress through the project execution phases
- Contribute to team's technical growth by engaging in technical discussion and mentoring
- Active communication with the cross functional team to ensure schedule, cost and performance alignment
- Strong ability for critical design thinking, thorough risk analysis and effective decision making
Qualifications
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in engineering in Mechanical
- 8-12 years
- Minimum of 8+ of experience in medium voltage electrical products such as switchgear, switches, insulators, etc
Skills
- Experience in medium voltage cable accessories is added advantage
- Experience in technically leading a team through all stages of the product development cycle
- Experience in di-electric, short circuit, temperature rise, arc test, test duties in accordance with IEEE/IEC standards
- Experience in end to end product design with strong understanding of different functions within organization
- Understanding of rubber/polymer manufacturing process is added advantage
- Strong experience of working with manufacturing for new product industrialization.
- Experience in product costing and analyzing cost break-up due to various manufacturing processes/ design features
- Experience in test object requirements, plan for assembly and finalize test parameters
- Hands on experience in product development leveraging DfX methodology
- Engineering technical expertise to solve problems and make design recommendations
Desired:
- Sound technical knowledge in medium voltage product design such as switchgear, switches, insulators etc. Experience in molded rubber products cable connectors is added advantage
- Extensive experience with product design, technology exploration, agile methodologies
- Hands on experience of working in plants/ suppliers, resolving technical issues, driving LEAN, DFSS certified
- Thorough understanding of IEEE/IEC standards, Type test certification, 3D modelling/drafting & SAP knowledge
