The Role
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer at Convergix, you will validate detailed designs for BIW tools, fixtures, and stations prior to releaseensuring completeness, correctness, compliance, and manufacturability. You will be the final quality gate across models, drawings, and BOMs to prevent downstream build and launch issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive checks on 3D models and 2D drawings for completeness, dimensional accuracy, and GD&T
- Verify compliance with North American OEM customer and internal standards: hardware libraries, clamp/locator standards, materials, fasteners, finishes, and title block requirements.
- Validate tolerance stacks, datum consistency, pin heights, slot/clearance conventions, tooling holes, and machining symbols.
- Check interferences, access and maintenance, gun and robot accessibility, and serviceability of the assembly.
- Review BOM integrity: correct items, quantities, materials/specs, and ERP mapping where applicable.
- Work with the Data Management Engineer to ensure correct revision control, change notes, and configuration integrity across assemblies and drawings.
- Produce redlines/markups, nonconformance reports, and approve/reject documentation with clear corrective actions.
- Participate in the development and implementation of quality control procedures for drawings.
- Support design reviews and coach junior designers on standard application and error prevention.
Essential
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (or related field).
- 10+ years of hands-on experience, with 5 years focussed on QC/checking activity
- Experience working with North American OEMs GMD1 Mechanical Standards
- Excellent knowledge of GD&T, manufacturing process, BOM, DFM and DFA
- High level of proficiency in NX Design, modelling and drawings with KBTD GM Toolkit
- Must have an audit mindset, with meticulous attention to detail
- Proven track record of owning complete project execution from concept to delivery
- Experience leading design presentations and reviews and buyoff approvals with customers
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing concepts and tools
- Experience collaborating with Process Engineering, Simulation and Robotics team
- Knowledge in weld gun and long lead equipment buy off process and approval
Desirable
- Formal GD&T training/certification strongly preferred (ISO 1101 or ASME Y14.5)
- Certification or training in quality assurance (QMS)
- Awareness of CE/PUWER and safety documentation practices beneficial
