- Our Corporate Bank Technology team is a global team of 3000 Engineers (and growing!) across 30 countries. The primary businesses that we support within Corporate Bank are Cash Management, Securities Services, Trade Finance and Trust & Agency Services. CB Technology support these businesses through vertical CIO aligned teams and by horizontals such as Client Connectivity, Surveillance and Regulatory, Infrastructure, Architecture, Production, and Risk & Control.
About the Team
Payment Channels Technology
- We are responsible for delivering client facing solutions that act as channels allowing Payment Initiation for our corporate and institutional clients across the world.
- Corporate Bank Technology has embarked on a multi-year technology refresh program that includes revitalization of Channel applications for payment initiation.
- As a Lead Engineer, you will be working on driving the development of global payment initiation platform that has React based micro frontends backed by Java powered micro-services deployed in a containerized environment.
- The platform uses event streaming over Kafka and varied datastores such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, HBase, MongoDB amongst other open-source software.
- You'll collaborate with other Senior Engineers, Lead Engineers and Analysts on the platform using agile practices to incrementally add functionality to the platform and with a sharp focus on automation.
- You will partner with business and technology managers to define modules and enhancements to the application stack that provides Deutsche Bank's institutional clients ability to initiate payments in real time and access to their account balances & statements in near real time.

Your key responsibilities
You will own engineering leadership, culture, and execution for a large India‑based organization (100+ engineers across two locations) delivering mission‑critical distributed systems. This role carries full accountability for raising the engineering bar, establishing clear technical direction, and building strong local leadership, while partnering globally with product and technology stakeholders. You will act as a fact‑based challenger where engineering quality, reliability, or long‑term sustainability are at risk. While this is a senior leadership role, you are expected to maintain strong technical credibility through hands‑on engagement, modern engineering practices, and direct mentorship of senior engineers.
Key responsibilities include
- Own local engineering leadership and oversight for 100+ engineers across two India locations, including direct management of senior leaders and strong functional influence across the wider organization
- Set and enforce clear engineering standards and technical direction, addressing gaps in ownership, quality, and execution
- Raise the engineering bar by introducing and scaling modern practices such as TDD, test automation, CI/CD maturity, AI‑assisted development, and performance testing
- Act as a credible technical authority, challenging architectural and delivery decisions with data, facts, and first‑principles reasoning
- Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement actively dismantle yes culture and low‑ownership behaviours
- Maintain hands‑on technical credibility through prototyping, spikes, pair programming, design reviews, and direct mentoring of senior engineers
- Partner closely with global stakeholders while retaining independence to say no when engineering quality, resilience, or risk posture is compromised
- Ensure strong risk, control, and operational hygiene across platforms, embedding reliability, observability, and supportability into engineering practices
Your skills and experience
Leadership & Scale
- Proven experience leading large engineering organizations (100+ engineers) with a mix of direct management and functional influence
- Demonstrated ability to build strong local leadership, improve engineering culture, and raise standards in complex enterprise environments
- Track record of assertive, fact‑based leadership and comfort making and defending difficult decisions
Technical Expertise
- Deep background in designing and operating distributed systems, with strong fundamentals in scalability, reliability, and performance
- Strong hands‑on experience with Java‑based backend systems, cloud platforms, and modern CI/CD pipelines
- Ability to introduce, champion, and personally model modern engineering practices (e.g., TDD, test automation, performance testing, AI‑enabled development)
- Sufficient hands‑on depth to prototype, spike, pair program, and meaningfully challenge design and implementation choices
Enterprise & Risk Mindset
- Strong understanding of operating within regulated, large‑scale enterprise environments
- Demonstrated ownership of risk, control, and operational excellence weak control mindset is not acceptable
- Experience balancing delivery pressure with long‑term platform health and sustainability
Stakeholder Management
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working across geographies and senior leadership levels
- Ability to maintain healthy tension with product and business partners, ensuring engineering quality and technical strategy are not compromised
