Who We're Looking For
The Lead DB Aministator is responsible for supporting very large and complex databases including the organization, installation and assessment of enterprise database management system software across multiple database environments.
Systems are based on Oracle RDBMS, MySQL, MS SQL Server and Vertica hosted on Unix/Linux platforms. Activities require the use of ISO9000 guidelines and specific DBA Homeroom best practices, standards, policies and procedures.
The role supports specific aspects of developmental, system test and production environments of an existing Oracle database environment. Routine tasks include database design, creation, maintenance, backup/recover, and performance tuning.

Some of What You'll Do
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain highly available PostgreSQL database clusters for production, staging, and development environments.
- Performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning for PostgreSQL databases.
- Develop and maintain robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Monitor database health, implement proactive alerts, and troubleshoot issues to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
- Perform schema design, database upgrades, patch management, and migrations between PostgreSQL versions and/or across platforms.
- Hands-on experience with migration of databases/data from other RDBMS/non-RDBMS like Oracle, MySQL or Vertica databases to PostgreSQL.
- Implement and maintain security policies, user access controls, auditing, and compliance requirements.
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL autovacuum processes, including configuration, tuning, and monitoring to ensure optimal database health and prevent table bloat. Ability to diagnose and resolve issues related to vacuuming and analyze autovacuum logs for proactive maintenance.
- Collaborate with application developers to design efficient database structures and optimize queries.
- Analyze and resolve complex database performance, replication, and data integrity issues.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for PostgreSQL, while providing secondary support for MySQL or Oracle databases as needed (including installation, upgrades, backup/restore, on-call support and troubleshooting).
- Develop and maintain database documentation, SOPs, and runbooks.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide support during critical incidents or planned maintenance windows.
- Stay current with emerging PostgreSQL features and database technologies, recommending improvements and best practices.
Experience, Education, and Certifications:
- Bachelor's or Maters degree in computer science.
- 8-10 years of Database administration experience in PostgreSQL as primary and MySQL or Oracle as secondary.
- Certifications like CPSDBA, MySQL Database Admin Professional, OCP will have added preference.
- Significant experience in working with developers for applications and a strong understanding of Database tools.
Additional Requirements:
- Creating, managing, optimizing, and securing PostgreSQL databases within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment.
- Experience in producing operational and procedural documentation to a high standard.
- Proficient PGAdmin, Percona and other related database tools.
- Experience with PL/SQL, triggers, stored procedures, SQL tuning.
- Knowlegde in: Table and index space management, Unix/Linux OS, and Shell scripting.
- Knowledge in product lifecycle methodologies.
- Working knowledge of client/server architecture.
- Capacity planning experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Analytical mindset and problem resolution skills.
- Willing to provide 24 x 7 Production Support and on-call availability as required
- Mindset focused on constant improvement and waste reduction
- Strong working knowledge of operating systems
