Lead Data Engineer

Job Description

We, at Jet2 (UK's third largest airlines and the largest tour operator), have set up a state-of-the-art Technology and Innovation Centre in Pune, India.  We are rapidly growing and are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join our Business Intelligence (MSBI) team at Pune.

As a part of J2TT, the successful candidate will represent J2TT BI team while working alongside the experienced BI team spread across Leeds in the UK.  Our BI development teams are dynamic, with the project approach being Agile in nature. The Data sets and databases that are being developed and utilised are mission critical to many of the teams in Jet2.com & Jet2Holidays.com and define how we utilise customer centric data to enhance the customer experience and help to provide further revenue for the business. The data platforms allow our colleagues to understand the trends in customer interaction. The Senior Data Engineer will work both alone and within a team to tight deadlines and will be supported by the team on an ongoing basis. This is a key role within our team as the Lead Data Engineer will help build and shape the data team from the ground up working with the Software Engineering Manager at the India Centre and the UK.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be in a very hands-on team leadership role closely working with an expert team of Data Engineer across Pune and Leeds in a distributed Agile delivery model.

·       Own the design and delivery of innovative technical solutions to business problems; Deliver user stories, meeting your own goals while leading your team members ensuring overall team's commitments are met on an ongoing basis

·       Coach junior Data Engineer in the team; Liaise with UK teams in daily stand ups and at all required technical forums while representing J2TT data team

·       Produce low-level solution designs for both yourself and the wider team to implement as part of your leadership role; Perform code reviews for the J2TT data team

·       Deliver high quality maintainable data code that you'll be proud to support in future and will serve as exemplary for other team members

·       Perform task allocations and ensure optimum capacity management to deliver the sprint backlog

·       Share skills and techniques, helping drive quality improvements across the team

·       Work closely with your colleagues asking the right questions and ensuring that we build the right functionality from the start

·       Actively participate in agile activities, championing continuous improvement and promoting the agile way of working

·       Be a technical mascot /leader for the J2TT data delivery function to implement innovative technical solutions providing rapid value to business users through delivery of new functionality and enhancements to existing functionality

Experience and Knowledge

·       Proven track record of leading BI development team(s)

·       Strong technical skills focused on the Microsoft SQL Server BI platform covering TSQL and SSIS with demonstrable commercial experience working with this technology stack and processing larger volumes of data

·       Experience of SSAS and SSRS.

·       Solid experience of working within an Agile framework

·       Rich experience of working with regions such as US, UK, Europe or Australia while leading an agile team

·       Rich experience in the area of logical and physical data modelling

·       Good understanding of the development lifecycle along with a strong BI development track record

·       Understand how data within the core business systems relates to business activity and constant improvement of business performance

·       Work with key stakeholders to understand business requirements from a data collation point of view, including all technical requirements to be input into the systems

·       Understand the mappings of source systems to data models in the target data warehouse schema and analytical cubes

·       Liaise with the BAs, developers, testers to fix defects

·       Previous experience of navigating defect tracking tools

Skills and Behaviours Required

We are looking for technologists who are passionate about data, analytics and technology

·       8+ years of strong relevant development experience on BI platforms

·       Highly skilled hands on technical team delivery leadership ability is must

·       Skills in solution definition and design that enable low-level solution to implement

·       Must have richprevious experience and skills developing solutions on the Microsoft SQL Server BI platform with strong TSQL and SSIS, SSAS, SSRS development skills

·       Any experience of the following tools and technologies would be beneficial but not essential as you will have the opportunity to develop skills in some of these areas as part of this role:

• Cloud Platforms (Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure and AWS)
• Snowflake Cloud Data Warehouse
• Restful API development/integration
• Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi and Apache Airflow
• Data Visualisation (specifically the use of Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server)
• C#, Java or Python programming skills
• SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Analysis Services
• Master Data Services

Qualifications

·       Bachelor's degree in information technology engineering or equivalent from reputed institute

·       Nice to have any industry certification
