Main Purpose
The Lead Chemical Engineer shall be responsible for delivering solutions in Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) using reaction-enabled flow modelling through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and analytical techniques, as required. The role will support in-house R&D activities as well as existing technologies. The incumbent will implement new findings to drive incremental improvements to existing plants and develop new technologies for underground coal gasification and subsequent downstream syngas utilization in the petrochemicals and E&P sectors.
Job Accountabilities
- Provide CFD expertise on gasification reactor systems, mixing equipment, and separation technologies related to in-house technology development and existing processes.
- Develop capabilities to solve complex problems related to fluid flow, reaction engineering, and process engineering through modelling and simulation. Design experiments to address information gaps such as reaction kinetics, fluid properties, and related parameters.
- Identify new ideas, generate innovative solutions, and prepare research proposals and technical reports.
- Coordinate technical projects and effectively communicate findings with the concerned teams.
- Supervise and work on multiple projects involving process investigations and design changes. Resolve production issues to improve quality and profitability.
- Monitor developments in gasification and petrochemical technologies.
- Build and maintain an extensive professional network, present technical work at conferences, and actively participate in professional organizations.
- Develop a strong understanding of RIL's business priorities, commercial applications, products, and processes.
Skills Required
- Strong chemical engineering fundamentals and domain knowledge.
- Demonstrated expertise in CFD modelling and gasification modelling.
- Understanding of developing kinetic models from experimental data.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Expertise in applying modelling tools to understand and improve complex reactor systems involving multiple reactions, multiphase flows, and heat transfer, such as petcoke gasifier reactors.
Experience and Qualification:
- Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering is mandatory; a Ph.D. is highly desirable.
- 6–10 years of relevant experience in the domain.
- Detailed understanding of gasification processes.
- Expertise in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and reaction engineering.
