The Opportunity
Pocketful is building a modern, high-performance fintech infrastructure layer designed for scale, speed, and reliability.
We are looking for a Backend Lead to architect and scale critical backend systems powering trading, execution, risk, and platform infrastructure. This role requires strong engineering leadership, deep backend expertise, and the ability to build systems that operate with low latency and high reliability under scale.
You will work closely with founders, product, and engineering leadership to shape the core technology backbone of the platform.
Role Mandate
- Lead the design, architecture, and development of scalable backend systems and distributed services using Golang.
- Build and optimize high-performance systems capable of handling large-scale concurrent transactions and real-time operations.
- Drive backend architecture decisions across scalability, reliability, fault tolerance, observability, and performance optimization.
- Lead engineering execution across microservices, APIs, infrastructure integrations, and backend workflows.
- Mentor and manage backend engineers while establishing strong engineering standards, code quality, and development practices.
- Collaborate closely with product, DevOps, frontend, and leadership teams to deliver scalable and resilient systems.
- Improve infrastructure efficiency, deployment reliability, monitoring, and backend operational excellence.
- Drive technical problem-solving across architecture, concurrency, distributed systems, and system optimization challenges.
Candidate Profile
- 6–10+ years of backend engineering experience building scalable products or platforms.
- Strong expertise in Golang, Python, C++, Java and backend system architecture.
- Deep understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, Distributed Systems, and Scalable Backend Design.
- Strong experience with Microservices Architecture, REST APIs, and concurrent system design.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, and cloud-native deployment environments.
- Strong understanding of database design, query optimization, and high-scale backend performance tuning.
- Experience leading engineering teams or owning backend architecture initiatives.
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced product and engineering environments.
Preferred Experience
- Experience building fintech, trading, broking, or transaction-heavy platforms.
- Exposure to event-driven systems, queues, caching layers, and real-time processing systems.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and observability frameworks.
- Understanding of trading systems, capital markets, or financial infrastructure is a strong advantage.
