Role Title: Lead Android Engineer (SDE-3)

Location: Noida Sector 62

Team: Mobile Engineering Learner/Batch/Commerce/Productivity Apps

Reports to: Engineering Manager / Director of Engineering

As an Lead Android Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in building scalable, high-performance mobile apps that power learning for millions across the country. At this level, we expect strong ownership, system-level thinking, and the ability to drive solutions from ideation to production in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect, build, and maintain mission-critical Android apps powering live learning, assessments, content delivery, and commerce.
  • Drive the technical roadmap for Android owning quality, scalability, performance, and modularity.
  • Mentor and guide SDE-1s and SDE-2s in code quality, architecture, design reviews, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with product, design, QA, and backend teams to deliver cohesive features and product experiences.
  • Lead the adoption of modern Android paradigms (Jetpack Compose, Modularization, KMM, etc.).
  • Ensure adherence to accessibility, analytics, offline support, and crash-free metrics.
  • Own and improve CI/CD, release processes, and observability for Android systems.

Must-Have Skills:

Android Expertise:

  • 5+ years of deep hands-on Android development experience.
  • Mastery of Kotlin, Android SDK, Jetpack components (Compose, ViewModel, Room, Navigation).
  • Strong experience with Jetpack Compose in production-grade apps.
  • Deep understanding of app lifecycle, architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI, clean architecture).

Engineering Leadership:

  • Proven track record of leading Android feature/module teams or projects.
  • Strong experience with modularization, scalable architecture, code splitting, and dependency management.
  • Proficiency in coroutines, Flows, background processing, WorkManager.
  • Skilled in design/architecture decisions that balance velocity, tech debt, and code health.

System Thinking:

  • Strong knowledge of app profiling, memory leaks, ANRs, and performance tuning.
  • Experience integrating Firebase suite (Crashlytics, Analytics, Remote Config).
  • Excellent debugging, testing (unit, UI), and observability practices.

Good-to-Have Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile (KMM) and cross-platform architecture patterns.
  • Experience leading feature flagging, A/B testing, or remote config at scale.
  • Exposure to compose animations, motion design, and custom views.
  • Experience in edtech, content delivery, or apps with 1M+ DAUs.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, Gradle performance tuning, and release automation.
