About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on mobile ad-tech engineer to build and scale our in-app monetization with Google Ad Manager (GAM). This is not an ad-ops or media buying role. You will own the mobile ad stack end to end SDK integration, in-app bidding, data pipelines, privacy, and performance so ads are fast, viewable, compliant, and do not hurt user experience.
What You'll Own
- GAM for Mobile: Integrate and productionise Google Mobile Ads (GMA) SDK with GAM on Android/iOS (and React Native/Flutter bridges when needed). Set up ad units, key-value targeting, refresh and fallback logic.
- Bidding Architecture: Implement in-app bidding using Prebid Mobile and/or GAM Open Bidding. Manage partner SDKs, timeouts, price floors, creative safety, and ANR-safe refresh cycles.
- Placement & Rendering: Design ad placements that protect performance (no jank/CLS), add lazy loading, set viewability thresholds, and enable OM SDK (IAB OMID) measurement. Handle web views where relevant.
- Data & Analytics: Send GMA/GAM events to Big Query. Build stable ETL to BI tools (e.g., Looker/Metabase/Amplitude). Own dashboards for fill rate, eCPM/RPM, ARPU, viewability, latency, invalid traffic alerts, and anomalies.
- Privacy & Compliance: Implement Google UMP SDK (GDPR/EEA), IAB TCF v2.2 consent strings, CCPA/CPRA, Apple ATT, and SK AdNetwork post backs. Ensure correct COPPA and content-rating settings.
- Quality & Reliability: Add automated tests for ad flows and partner SDKs. Use feature flags to roll out placements safely, run holdouts/A-B without waiting for app store releases.
- Collaboration: Work with Product, Design, and Growth to balance UX and revenue. Plan and ship experiments on placement, frequency caps, floors, and bidder mix.
Must Have
- 58 years in ad-tech engineering with strong, hands-on GAM + GMA SDK integration on Android (Kotlin) and/or iOS (Swift).
- Built in-app bidding (Prebid Mobile / GAM Open Bidding) and worked with multiple mediation/bidder SDKs.
- Deep understanding of programmatic (bidding vs waterfall), GAM line-item strategy for apps, key-value targeting, creative formats, and brand-safety.
- Comfortable with event pipelines and SQL (BigQuery). Able to build clear, actionable revenue and UX dashboards.
- Strong debugging skills: Charles/Proxyman, crash/performance tools, and mobile CI/CD.
Good to Have
- Experience with Prebid Server, backend services (Node/Go/Python), and GCP/Cloud Run/K8s.
- Integrations with IAS/Moat (viewability/IVT), MMPs (AppsFlyer/Adjust), and experimentation tools (LaunchDarkly/Statsig) for ad feature rollouts.
- Knowledge of AdMob mediation, Open Bidding partners, and SSP/DSP integrations for apps.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Live GAM + GMA SDK integration with consent flows.
- Dashboards running for fill, RPM, viewability, latency with alerting.
- One meaningful placement/bidding experiment shipped with measurable uplift and no UX regressions.
