About The Role
We're looking for a Layout Artist who has a strong cinematic eye and a solid understanding of camera, composition, and storytelling. In this role, you'll be responsible for translating storyboards and animatics into technically sound and visually compelling layouts that form the foundation for animation, lighting, and FX.
You'll work closely with Directors, Animation, and other departments to ensure shots are clear, accurate, and production-ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality shot layouts based on storyboards, animatics, and director's input
- Set up cameras, blocking, staging, and basic animation for characters and props
- Maintain correct scale, continuity, and spatial relationships within scenes
- Refine camera movement, framing, and timing to support storytelling
- Prepare scenes for downstream departments (Animation, FX, Lighting)
- Collaborate with Supervisors and Leads to implement creative and technical feedback
- Troubleshoot layout issues and optimize scenes for production efficiency
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong understanding of cinematography, composition, and visual storytelling
- Good knowledge of camera lenses, movement, and shot language
- Proficiency in Autodesk Maya (or Houdini/Blender preferred)
- Ability to interpret storyboards and animatics accurately
- Solid grasp of scene scale, perspective, and blocking
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment
