We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Certified Professional Coder (CPC) to join our team and support efficient revenue cycle management.
Position OverviewThe Laboratory Coding Specialist is responsible for reviewing and accurately assigning medical codes to laboratory test results. This role ensures proper billing and compliance with healthcare regulations by analyzing patient records and applying correct ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes. The position also involves collaborating with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and ensure accurate reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities- Medical Record Review:
- Analyze laboratory reports, patient demographics, and clinical data to extract relevant coding information.
- Code Assignment:
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on laboratory procedures and established guidelines.
- Quality Control:
- Perform audits to ensure coding accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Compliance:
- Stay updated with coding regulations and payer-specific requirements to maintain compliant billing practices.
- Data Entry:
- Enter coded data into EHR systems while ensuring accuracy and timely claim submission.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with lab technicians, physicians, and billing teams to clarify coding-related queries.
- Coding Research:
- Use coding manuals and tools to resolve complex coding issues and stay updated with industry changes.
Required Skills & Qualifications- Certification: CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or equivalent
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in medical coding (lab coding preferred)
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding
- Laboratory Knowledge: Familiarity with lab tests, procedures, and specimen handling
- Medical Terminology: Good understanding of anatomy and disease processes
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in reviewing records
- Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret complex medical documentation
- Computer Skills: Experience with EHR systems and coding software
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills
