Role Summary
We are seeking an expert
L3 Network Security Engineer specializing in Akamai Web Application Firewall (WAF), Bot Management, and cloud-based security solutions. The ideal candidate will provide advanced, tier-3 operational support, lead complex troubleshooting for critical web traffic anomalies, optimize application security posture, and mentor junior team members within a 24x7 security operations framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Akamai WAF & Security Administration: Architect, configure, manage, and optimize Akamai security solutions, including Kona Site Defender (KSD), App & API Protector, Web Application Firewall (WAF), and IP/Geo-blocking rules.
- Bot Management & Threat Mitigation: Deploy, tune, and monitor Akamai Bot Manager solutions to mitigate automated attacks, credential stuffing, and scraping threats.
- Advanced Traffic Routing & Edge Security: Configure and troubleshoot Akamai edge configurations, CDN integration, SSL/TLS certificate management, and custom security rulesets (Advanced Security Management rules).
- Incident Escalation & Tier-3 Support: Serve as the final escalation point for complex, high-priority security incidents, false-positive tuning, DDoS mitigations, and performance bottlenecks.
- Log Analysis & Threat Intelligence: Analyze Akamai security events, SIEM integrations, and edge logs to investigate advanced web attacks, API vulnerabilities, and infrastructure threats, documenting detailed Root-Cause Analyses (RCA).
- Policy Lifecycle & Rule Tuning: Drive proactive security posture improvements through regular rule-tuning, vulnerability assessments, and application defense updates without impacting user experience.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with application development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless cloud security integration and incident resolution.
Mandatory Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience in the Network Security domain, with a heavy emphasis on Web Application Security and Cloud Security platforms.
- Core Expertise: Extensive hands-on configuration and troubleshooting experience with Akamai WAF (Kona Site Defender / App & API Protector).
- Threat Defense Knowledge: Strong expertise in managing DDoS protection, Bot Management, and API security controls.
- Web & Networking Protocols: Deep understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, TLS/SSL handshakes, DNS, TCP/IP, and application layer protocols.
- Analytical Skills: Proven ability to dissect complex web traffic flows, inspect security logs, and utilize debugging tools (e.g., Charles Proxy, Wireshark, Akamai Trace headers).
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- Experience with other cloud WAF/CDN providers (e.g., Cloudflare, AWS WAF, Imperva).
- Familiarity with API security standards (OWASP Top 10 for APIs) and JSON/XML security inspection.
- Scripting knowledge (Python, JavaScript, or regular expressions) for custom rule creation and automation.
- Professional Certification: Akamai Certified Professional (or equivalent Akamai cloud security certifications) / relevant vendor-neutral web security credentials.
