Role Overview

The L2 Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for managing and maintaining enterprise-grade infrastructure platforms, including Windows Server (Wintel) environments, VMware virtualization platforms, and Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) solutions. This role requires a strong technical background, proactive problem-solving skills, and the ability to make sound decisions in critical situations. The primary objective is to ensure the stability, security, and optimal performance of the organization's infrastructure platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Wintel Management

  • Install, configure, and patch Windows Server environments to maintain system integrity and functionality.
  • Remote support for the physical and virtual servers in on-premises and the VMs in public cloud infrastructure (like Azure, AWS)
  • Administer core services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policies to support business operations.
  • Monitor the health of server systems and address operating system-level issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Participate in DR activities
  • Working on critical Incidents, change implementations and service requests

VMware Management

  • Manage VMware vSphere environments, including the administration of ESXi hosts and vCenter.
  • Provision virtual machines, optimize resources, and conduct capacity planning to support dynamic workloads.
  • Implement robust backup and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard virtualized workloads.

HCI Management

  • Operate and maintain HCI platforms such as Nutanix and VMware NSX, VSAN on Dell VxRail, ensuring reliability and efficiency.
  • Monitor cluster health, storage utilization, and performance metrics to maintain optimal operation.
  • Apply firmware and software updates across nodes and clusters to ensure platforms are up to date.

Operational Excellence

  • Respond to incidents and service requests within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement preventative measures to avoid future incidents.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of configurations, changes, and procedures for reference and compliance purposes.

Compliance & Security

  • Adhere to organizational security policies and compliance standards in daily operations.
  • Apply operating system hardening and vulnerability remediation practices to minimize security risks.

Must-Have Skills & Qualifications

  • Extensive hands-on experience with Windows Server administration (2016, 2019, 2022).
  • Proficiency with VMware vSphere, including vCenter and ESXi, as well as a solid understanding of virtualization concepts.
  • Working knowledge of HCI platforms such as Nutanix or VMware NSX, vSAN, running on Dell VxRail.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting to automate administrative tasks.
  • Understanding of ITIL processes, including Incident, Change, and Problem Management.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills to resolve complex technical issues.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively under pressure and make decisions that minimize downtime.
  • Strong risk assessment skills when implementing changes in production environments.
  • Demonstrates ownership and initiative in resolving complex issues without escalating unnecessarily.
  • Evaluates trade-offs between performance, cost, and compliance requirements to achieve optimal outcomes.
