Roles and Responsibilities
The selected JRF will be expected to:
- Culture and maintain bacterial strains, mammalian cell lines.
- Perform molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, cloning, mutagenesis, and sequence analysis
- Carry out protein expression, purification, and enzymatic assays
- Assist in in vitro hostpathogen interaction studies (cell-based assays, adhesion/attachment studies, microscopy where applicable)
- Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, experimental records, and data documentation
- Assist in procurement, inventory management, and maintenance of laboratory reagents and equipment
- Analyse experimental data and contribute to manuscript preparation, reports, and project presentations
- Support compliance with institutional biosafety and ethical guidelines
Essential Qualifications
- M.Sc. / M.Tech in Life Sciences, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related discipline
- Qualification in national eligibility tests (ICMR-JRF/CSIR-UGC NET/GATE/DBT or equivalent) is desirable
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Hands-on experience in microbiology and molecular biology techniques
- Familiarity with bacterial genetics, protein biochemistry, or hostpathogen interaction assays
- Basic knowledge of cell culture and microscopy is an advantage
- Good data management, record-keeping, and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a research team
- Strong motivation for research and interest in pursuing a PhD
Fellowship and Tenure
- Fellowship will be as per ICMR norms
- Initial appointment will be for one year, extendable based on performance and project requirements, up to the project duration (3 years).
